Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) will open its sixth moderately-priced Courtyard-branded hotel in China in 2006 when the 247-room Courtyard by Marriott Nanchang opens under a management contract with Nanchang Hongjin Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. The hotel is currently under construction and Karen Wang Design is the interior design firm.
An industrial city, Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi province and serves as the main arrival and departure point for visitors to Lushan Mountain and Jingdezhen, which is well-known for its porcelain production. The city is served by Changbei Airport which is located approximately 25 minutes by car northwest of the city center.
The Courtyard by Marriott Nanchang will be located about 10 minutes by car from the Ba Yi Plaza commercial and retail development cluster in the southwestern part of the city. Surrounding the hotel are office buildings and a number of residential developments.
Courtyard by Marriott hotels are aimed at business and leisure travelers who want consistent quality lodging at an affordable price. Guest rooms at Courtyard by Marriott hotels are generally larger than those offered by competitive properties.
For dining and entertainment, the Courtyard by Marriott Nanchang will have a casual restaurant with a permanent grand buffet and four private dining rooms and a lobby lounge. Other amenities will include an executive floor and lounge, exercise facilities, a gift shop, a concierge desk, a business center with a board room and valet/laundry service.
For social events and conferences, the Courtyard by Marriott Nanchang will offer 540 square meters of space including a 400-square meter multi-function room that is divisible into three sections; and a 140-square meter meeting room that is divisible into two sections.
Other Courtyard by Marriott hotels in China are located in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenyang, Shunde and Wuxi.
