ATLANTA, The California State Assembly today will honor Mike Amin, chairman, Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), along with 20 other community leaders as selected by the Indo American Trade & Commerce Council (IATCC). The day will also commemorate the anniversary of India's independence, in addition to recognizing significant contributions made to the state by members of California's Indo-American community. According to Ashok Bhatt, president, IATCC, this is the first time an Indian group will be officially honored on the California State Assembly floor.

"We are delighted that Mike Amin accepted our invitation to represent the hospitality industry on behalf of the Indo American Trade and Commerce Council on this exciting day," said Bhatt. "He has truly proved himself to be an outstanding and effective leader in both his community and his industry."

Today's schedule of events includes the presentation of a Member's Resolution by Assembly Majority Leader Kevin Shelley and a ceremony on the Capitol's South Steps, including live performances of the national anthems

of both the United States and India. In addition, India's national flag will be suspended in the Capitol Rotunda alongside the United States national flag and the California State flag for the entire day.

"I feel both honored and privileged to participate in this great day for the Indo-American community," said Amin. "This type of recognition by the California State Assembly shows that we as a community are truly making ourselves heard and felt. I look forward to the day that we will hold this type of celebration at the nation's Capitol."
