COZUMEL, Mexico | Wyndham Hotels and Resorts and Islander Collection, a Mexico-based property management group, today announced the opening of the newly constructed, 96-room, all-suite Aura Cozumel, A Wyndham Grand Bay hotel.

The $22 million luxury boutique resort here represents the Wyndham® brand’s first newly constructed Grand Bay property. It is adjacent to the 402-room Wyndham Cozumel Resort and Spa, which became the first Wyndham branded property in Cozumel last August, also managed by Islander Collection.

Peter Strebel, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts president, called the resort a “stunning addition to our portfolio of upscale hotels,” adding: “Travelers can enjoy unparalleled all-inclusive amenities, impeccable service and gourmet dining in a popular resort destination.”

The Grand Collection portfolio is an “ensemble of one-of-a-kind hotels within the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand aimed at guests looking for unique experiences in distinctive destinations around the world,” he said.

“With the Aura Cozumel we have created a new level of luxury, offering sophisticated travelers all the amenities and services they expect from an upscale boutique with all the simplicity and ease afforded by an all-inclusive property,” said Carlos Del Pino, managing director of Islander Collection. “It’s an exciting new addition to the Islander Collection, and we are delighted to partner with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts to introduce the very first Aura hotel in the idyllic destination of Cozumel.”

The Aura Cozumel Wyndham Grand Bay is also the island’s first inductee to Preferred Boutique, a group of luxury boutique hotels recognized for unique travel experiences that emphasize quality, service, style and personality.

Situated along Cozumel’s southwestern coast, the resort is 20 minutes from the Cozumel International Airport, 10 minutes from downtown San Miguel, 30 minutes from the Cozumel Country Club golf course and minutes from several of the most popular reefs and dive spots in the Caribbean.

Contemporary in design, the hotel’s spacious suites are dispersed in four low-rise buildings. Ground-level rooms offer direct pool access from their patios. Each area pool is connected to the resort’s central “lazy river” pool, a focal point of the property.

The resort offers two gourmet restaurants; three bars including a solarium bar; room service 24 hours a day; two dive shops; private pier; two meeting rooms; business center; wireless Internet service; and a comprehensive activities program.

In-room amenities include luxury bedding and linens, minibars, plush bathrobes and slippers, 32-inch LCD flat screen televisions, iPod® docks, premium brand bath accessories, cordless telephones and laptop-sized electronic safes. Sliding glass doors open onto expansive, fully furnished private terraces with stylish chaise lounges.

Guests staying at the Aura Cozumel Wyndham Grand Bay also receive access to the Islander Spa as well as special reservations for tee times at the Cozumel Country Club golf course. The Aura is a pet-friendly hotel that invites travelers to include family pets in their vacation plans.

Designed in an avant-garde style, each suite is appointed with dark wood furnishings and a selection of fine materials that combine natural elements of wood, stone and marble. Fabrics in tones of blue add to the décor designed to complement the waters of the Caribbean. All rooms provide easy beach access, include a patio or balcony and offer ocean views, framed through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Geared at couples and young families, the one- and two-bedroom suites range from 750 to more than 2,000 square feet in size. All rooms are equipped with king-size or two queen-size beds and oversized baths featuring marble floors and walls as well as separate shower and bathtub areas.

Seven categories of accommodations are available including Aura Swim-Up Suites, which are located on the ground floor and offer direct pool access, and Aura Solarium Pool Suites, which are located on the third floor and offer private solariums and lap pools. Two-bedroom suites offer spacious living and dining areas, fully equipped kitchens, separate bathrooms for each bedroom and private rooftop terraces with a large 25-by-15-foot pool.
