Hotel Diplomat Stockholm Celebrates its 100th Birthday
The beautiful Hotel Diplomat building on the famous esplanade Strandvagen in Stockholm is 100 years old. Visitors and guests will notice the anniversary being marked throughout the year – in everything from the restaurant menu to the champagne in the bar and the art on the hotel's walls.
Hotel Diplomat Stockholm overlooks the water and the magnificent seafront of the Swedish capital, just a stone's throw from the liveliest and most vibrant locations in Stockholm for business, entertainment and shopping. The fantastic building is celebrating its 100th birthday, an anniversary that will be marked at the hotel all year long.
In recent years, the hotel has undergone a comprehensive but sensitive refurbishment and redesign. The person behind the design of the rooms and the furniture is one of Sweden's most internationally renowned architects, Per Oberg. His focus has been on retaining the building's attractive period features and combining them with beautiful, light Scandinavian design.
Hotel Diplomat Stockholm is also proud to present its concept 'artists‐in‐residence'. Throughout the year, the hotel lounge will provide exhibition space for a number of Swedish contemporary artists with an international reputation. The beginning of the year saw the fourth generation take over management of the family owned hotel group, with Anna Cappelen becoming Managing Director. As well as the prestigious hotel in Stockholm, the group also includes the Hotel Diplomat in Are, the most exclusive ski resort in the Swedish mountains.
"For 100 years now, Stockholm's most beautiful building has offered its visitors a antastic setting and a welcoming atmosphere. We hope to continue this for at least another 100 years," states Anna Cappelen.
As an extra birthday present for the centenarian, the Hotel Diplomat was also recently voted best business hotel for the second year in a row at the SSQ Awards.
"This clearly shows that we understand what today's business travellers want and deliver it in the best possible way," responds Anna Cappelen.
The Hotel Diplomat's 100th birthday will be celebrated in a number of other ways over the year. The hotel's unique collaboration with champagne house Philipponnat will result in a specially developed anniversary label, while the restaurant and the bar will be offering anniversary specialities. As an example, the classic cocktail bar will be serving Swedish whisky from Mackmyra, Sweden's first and only whisky distillery. Sixteen varieties of the Swedish single malt will be available in the bar, topped by a 'living' single cask, served from a 30 litre bourbon barrel.
