Elsafe

While many in-room safes may appear similar, BIG differences exist:
UL-certification, Design, Ergonomics, Functionality, and RFID/NFC and RF-online platform set Elsafe’s NEW Sentinel II apart from other in-room safes on the market.

PARIS | Elsafe, the world leader in providing in-room electronic safes to hotels, goes beyond the ordinary with the unveiling of its new Sentinel II in-room safe series this month. The modern ergonomic design of Sentinel II, developed by world renowned design and human factor experts (Bresslergroup), is combined with the industry’s leading, high-quality safe platform, resulting in a new product that truly stands apart and that will complement the design of any guestroom.

Elsafe is the only hotel safe manufacturer to have achieved UL-1037 certification after passing extensive testing for physical break-ins, endurance and jarring by the world's most prestigious, reliable and professional testing organization, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Today, with the launch of its digital Sentinel II series, Elsafe also becomes the first security manufacturer to introduce both RFID/NFC technology and RF-online options for hotel in-room safes.

“Elsafe is once again setting the pace for in-room safe innovation,” said Pascal Metivier, President of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality EMEA and Latin America. “As more hotels worldwide begin adopting RFID and RF-online electronic-locking systems for their guestrooms, such as the Signature RFID/NFC by VingCard and VISIONLINE by VingCard solutions, we have simultaneously designed a new, stylish in-room safe series that operate on either digital keypad, or through the guests´ unique RFID room key.

“Our safe technology works in tandem with the leading Signature RFID/NFC contact-less electronic lock from VingCard,” he added. “Thanks to VingCard’s exclusive anti-cloning technology, Sentinel II RFID/NFC can only be opened with the designated RFID guest device or an NFC-equipped cell phone. This represents a major improvement when compared to the security shortfalls of older mag-stripe operated safes that are offered by other vendors. Indeed, such safes can be opened with both a valid guest card and also with a valid guest-card copy issued at reception. This represents a security challenge because typically guests are leaving the spare copy unattended in the room.

The Sentinel II combines the same unmatched security standards Elsafe is known for around the world with functional and trendy design. It is the perfect in-room safe for quality- and design-conscious hoteliers, without compromising guests’ security needs.

Upgradeable solutions

The Sentinel II by Elsafe series is designed as a flexible platform to accommodate quick and easy upgrades. Migrating from the from standard Sentinel II Digital safe to the Sentinel II RFID/NFC system is trouble free, as is upgrading to a Wireless RF-Online platform for remote communications with a central server for both Sentinel II Digital and Sentinel II RFID/NFC.

Unbreakable, unbeatable security

While many in-room safes may appear similar, Metivier said that what’s on the inside of the Sentinel II safes also makes a BIG difference in security. In addition to featuring an industry-leading audit trail and an attractive, ergonomic design, there are four additional unique features to the Sentinel II by Elsafe that – while invisible to the guest – make the system the most secure on the market and that helped Elsafe obtain the UL-1037 certification for this series:
  • Hook-style interlocking mechanism
  • Anti-labyrinth mechanism that avoids reaching the electronics
  • Solid piece, cold-pressed curved steel door that provides additional strength
  • Extended solid steel hinges are arc-welded permanently to the door

“As these features clearly show, not all safes are created equal,” Metivier said. “Looks can be deceiving – and today more than ever hoteliers need to align themselves to offer new standards to protect guests’ and owners’ assets. Just because a safe looks secure, doesn’t mean that it is.

Like Signature RFID/NFC by VingCard, Sentinel II RFID/NFC is compatible with all main RFID ISO standards (ISO 14.443 A-MIFARE, ISO 14.443 B, ISO 15.693) and the new Near Field Communication (NFC) secure transaction platform being deployed in cell phones worldwide.”

Sentinel II by Elsafe also is built to be compatible with VISIONLINE RF-online solutions. Sentinel II in-room safes can hold up to a 17-inch laptop computer, and an optional internal power outlet (EURO/UK/US) is available on the inside of door for guest convenience. In addition, the safe has been designed to accommodate “easy outside battery change” so internal contents are not disturbed if a battery needs replaced.
