AHC+Hospitality announces that the new lifestyle hotel AC Hotel Grand Rapids Downtown opens its doors today. The modern, design-driven brand from Marriott International, Inc., is the first to open in Michigan and enters Grand Rapids' downtown scene as the city continues its emergence as a leading Midwest destination for arts, culture and business travel.
Located steps from the Van Andel Arena and DeVos Convention Center, the 130-room hotel transformed a historic 127-year old warehouse into a haven for entrepreneurial-minded travelers, featuring minimalist design details and the building's original brick façade. The converted hotel features nods to the destination, such as the AC Lounge serving custom brews by Grand Rapids-based Elk Brewing and spirits from local distillers like Gray Skies, Coppercraft and Long Road, as well as public spaces exclusively outfitted by renowned West Michigan-based furniture designer Herman Miller.
Featuring selections from some of Herman Miller's most influential designers such as Charles and Ray Eames (Eames Lounge Chair, Eames Stool), George Nelson (Nelson Pedestal Table) and Isamu Noguchi (Noguchi Coffee Table), the lobby design pays homage to early 19th-century Grand Rapids when the destination was home to more than 40 furniture companies and earned its nickname "furniture city."
The AC Kitchen offers a European-inspired breakfast such as freshly baked croissants, sliced prosciutto and cheese, savory and sweet breakfast tarts, yogurts and fresh fruit. The AC Lounge feautures a food and beverage program inspired by the brand's Spanish roots including the Signature GinTonic with Hendrick's Gin and Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic and and tapas-style small bites.
Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, AC Store, and the AC Library, designed to serve as a quiet workspace for guests and locals. Curated programming includes a rotating guest speaker series featuring local creatives, "vinyl and vino" (music and wine) pairing led by the sommelier-certified general manager, temporay art exhibits and more.
