Scandic's fifth signature hotel, Marski by Scandic, is now open in the heart of Helsinki. The refurbished hotel has 363 rooms as well as meeting and event spaces, a restaurant, bar and café and a wellness center. Originally opened in 1962, the classic hotel was renovated to become a Scandic signature hotel that stands firmly on its roots of Finnfulness - the open mindedness, urban lifestyle and love of nature that personifies modern Finns.
Scandic's signature hotels are a collection of lifestyle hotels developed to bring out their individual character and unique identity. They appeal to people looking for unique experiences and are vibrant social venues and meeting points for locals and visitors alike. In addition to Marski by Scandic, Scandic's signature collection includes Haymarket by Scandic and Downtown Camper in Stockholm, Grand Hotel Oslo and Hotel Norge in Bergen.
Marski by Scandic, which is Scandic's first signature hotel in Finland, is more than a place to stay - it's an extra living room and place to work, meet, hang out and get inspired. Guests can also view exciting art exhibitions and listen to interesting and coming and established artists and DJs playing, while sipping craft cocktails at the Marski Bar or enjoy Finnish classics with an international twist at the Kuusi Palaa restaurant.
The design and interiors of Marski by Scandic are inspired by the outdoors: the dark green Finnish woods, the thousands of lakes and the warm reds of Finnish berries. The hotel's light wooden floors are paired with grey stone reminiscent of the cliffs in the Finnish archipelago and the furniture is a blend of modern Finnish design and influences from abroad. In the hotel rooms, Finnfulness and Helsinki are brought to life through images of nature by local photographer Seppo Alanko.
- The hotel's harmonious design draws inspiration from the local urban environment and our longing for nature, making Marski by Scandic an exciting meeting place that offers unique experiences in the middle of the city and an oasis of Finnfulness - a modern attitude that opens doors to Helsinki as we see and experience it, says Jouko Puranen, General Manager at Marski by Scandic.
As at all Scandic hotels, sustainability is a natural part of operations at Marski by Scandic. During the renovation, the hotel's building systems were updated to meet today's energy-efficiency requirements. Marski has the official Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification with strict requirements regarding limiting consumption of energy, water and chemical as well as source separation of waste. Recycled materials have also been used whenever possible including in staff uniforms and table napkins as well as in the hotel umbrellas.
