The brand new ibis Budget Sheffield Centre - St Mary's Gate Hotel has finally been unlocked and is set to open on Monday 27th July 2020, as the nationwide lockdown gradually lifts.
The new build city centre hotel was originally due to launch at the end of March, just as lockdown commenced. The designers' Whittam Cox Architects work was completed; the stylish Chill #10A Artisan Café & Bar was finished and the cleverly designed ibis Budget 'Nest' bedrooms, which can be adapted for single occupants or families including the dog!, were ready for business and raring to go.
Monday 27th July 2020 sees the beginning of a new era with a new hotel offering from Accor brand ibis Budget. Several years in the planning, the ibis Budget Sheffield Centre - St Mary's Gate will open its doors for guests for the first time as well creating 25 new hospitality jobs for the city.
"We have been planning this launch for a long time," said General Manager Dave Amans. "Like Sleeping Beauty, the hotel went in to lockdown and was put to rest until now. Finally, after much anticipation, we are excited to bring this new concept to Sheffield and share what has been our secret for many months."
City dwellers and visitors will be able to enjoy a great value and convenient stay in the heart of Sheffield, close to all the city's most popular attractions. As part of the Velocity Tower, the hotel makes up part of the city's spectacular skyline.
Guests will be able to enjoy the contemporary Chill #10A Artisan Café & Bar serving Climpson & Sons coffee and a selection of sweet and savory snacks and drinks throughout the day, with the option of in-house dining or grab-and-go from 6am.
"We believe that our Chill #10A Artisan Café & Bar will become a favourite with locals and guests alike. The space has a relaxed and quirky vibe, and we'll have a great selection of fresh food and drinks available all day long. We hope everyone will want to hang out here (whilst obtaining social distancing measures) and soak up the style and ambience of a great new city haunt."
Amans is hoping that in the future the hotel will become a hub to showcase the city's talent in music and art. "We are connecting with the creative groups in the city to see what we can do on the local scene to support emerging talent and give a showcase to Sheffield's finest artists. I believe our trendy design will provide a great backdrop for creative work in the future."
Nick Fenton, Associate Director at Whittam Cox Architects added, "We're delighted that this prominent scheme in the heart of the city is now opening to the public. The completion of this final phase concludes the original aspiration to create a high quality mixed use development for Sheffield's city centre."
The hotel also features the innovative ibis Budget Nest bedroom concept. The comfortable and streamlined bedrooms provide a cool and restful space for city explorers, business travellers or family members visiting students based in the area.
Opening prices will start from £30 per night in a standard room.
