CityHub, the award-winning champion of smart city travel, opens its first international location on 8 October 2020 in the diverse Vesterbro neighbourhood of Copenhagen (Denmark). CityHub Copenhagen marks the beginning of CityHub's European rollout, following recent global financing from Dutch banks NIBC and ABN Amro.
CityHub is on a mission to provide Generations Y and Z with an accessible and state-of the art place to stay - fulfilling the gap between hotels and hostels. CityHub guests are able to curate their stay inside and out, thanks to comfortable and optimised use of space, a digital first stance, and around-the-clock access to local savvy CityHosts. This allows them to experience smart, affordable luxury, while enjoying unforgettable and authentic city breaks.
A new space at the heart of one of Europe's most dynamic cities.
CityHub Copenhagen will open its doors in the dynamic neighbourhood of Vesterbro, an area which recently became a culture and creative hotspot, populated by artists, designer shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. It is located in a space that was previously used for retail, breaking the usual development norms for hotels and hostels, and demonstrating the flexibility of the CityHub infrastructure. CityHub signed a long-term lease agreement with NREP, the leading real estate innovator in the Nordics, which is focused on creating long term value through real estate anchored businesses.
Innovative design and services for the next generation of travellers
CityHub replaces traditional hotel rooms with Hubs, of which CityHub Copenhagen counts 215. The compact yet sleek enclosures provide comfortable sleeping and optimised use of storage space, and are designed to balance a private experience and a communal style of living. The new location features a sauna, hangout and wellness areas, that are decorated with furniture specially designed by the Danish design studio Spacon & X for CityHub Copenhagen. Additional unique features include a comfortable but optimised use of space, a digital first stance, and around-the-clock access to local savvy CityHosts. These allow guests to experience smart, affordable luxury, while enjoying unforgettable and authentic city breaks.
CityHosts are reachable via the CityHub app, which allows guests to keep in touch 24/7 for personalised recommendations on what to do and how to navigate Copenhagen. All CityHub guests receive a personal RFID wristband, giving them contactless check-in and self-service at the bar, revolutionising traditional hotel amenities through technology. Each Hub is customisable thanks to mood lighting and music streaming systems that guests can curate through integrated bluetooth devices. Additionally, guests can easily book their rooms on cityhub.com - the website allows flexible bookings (free cancelation 24 hours before arrival) and secure payment methods.
Bridging the gap between hotels and hostels, one city at a time
CityHub's digital approach to hospitality is in line with the brand's mission to optimise travel for the next generation, who expect a secure, inclusive and personalised experience in a central location.
"Young leisure travellers are the category most apt to travel in these uncertain times, either within the frontiers of their own country or internationally, when possible,." states CityHub Co-founder Sem Schuurkes. As the travel industry is undergoing a major rethink, CityHub adds private bank NIBC joining long-standing partner ABN AMRO in supporting its development plan.
The new funds will support and accelerate CityHub's expansion plan to grow its portfolio to ten locations. Launched in 2015 in Amsterdam, CityHub opened its second location in Rotterdam in 2018. Frequently recognised as the Scandinavian design capital, Copenhagen is the Dutch brand's first property outside The Netherlands.
