LUMA Hotel San Francisco, the highly anticipated, first-ever hotel in the Mission Bay neighborhood, officially opens its doors today. A beacon of San Francisco's next-generation hospitality, LUMA encompasses a fresh independent spirit that draws upon contemporary design, curated guest experiences and intuitive amenities connecting travelers to the local scene. Conveniently located in San Francisco's newest tech-centric hub, LUMA sits adjacent to Chase Center, Oracle Park, UCSF Medical Center and a number of tech/biotech headquarters.
Bridging Efficiency with Style
Designed by Cole Martinez Curtis & Associates, LUMA Hotel San Francisco features 299 contemporary guest rooms and suites, including 50 Double King rooms, that thoughtfully blend technology with premium amenities designed to make the guest feel right at home. Floor-to-ceiling windows with mechanized privacy shades are available in most guest rooms, with the layout of each room meticulously designed to maximize vantage points of the skyline and bay. Paying homage to the history of Mission Bay which once housed salt ponds, the color palette infuses cool neutral tones with pops of teal to play upon the touchpoint where water meets land.
Sitting atop the 16th floor is the Penthouse, the illuminating jewel of the property with a fully separate living and dining space and connecting capabilities to adjoining rooms for a truly expansive feel. The one bedroom suite also includes a wet bar, powder room, and full spa bathroom complete with a soaking tub, river stone shower and unique fossil tile from Stone Source. Custom furnishings can be found throughout the Penthouse including sectional curved sofas from Lily Jack and bedroom headboard designed by Kevin Farry Fine Art.
Curated guest room amenities include Frette terry and linens, bath products by Etro, CHI Touch 2 hairdryers, Bormioli glassware, and a selection of artwork from locally-based artists.
Visionary Design
Overseen by San Francisco-based architecture firm Hornberger + Worstell, the hotel's exterior plays upon LUMA's name meaning "bright light," and features several light installations that serve as artistic contribution to the property as well as reflect the city's Illumination program. Back-lit, laser cut panels that emulate the salt ponds encapsulate the entry-way to the hotel and are set to display an array of changing colors at night, in addition to a beam of light that stretches up the corner of Third and Channel Street.
The hotel's COMMUNITY serves as a gateway for both locals and visitors to feel as though they're one with the neighborhood, featuring glass-enclosed walls, plentiful lounge furniture and access to the coffee bar. Commissioned by local artists Jim Campbell and Adia Millett, the ground floor also showcases exclusive large-scale art installations with vantage points from the adjacent street and entry driveway. The Jim Campbell piece features 4,000 wires that end in single LED light bulbs, titled "Fragment," to reflect a man climbing through the flow of water. The Adia Millett piece titled "Refuge" is an 18 foot tall abstract painting of the indingenous birds known to Mission Bay.
Upon check-in, guests are greeted by a mixed-media piece from Oakland-based Local Language titled "Memory Tides," inspired by aerial photography of the Bay Area wetlands. This 3D model encourages the viewer to pause and reflect on what has come before while acknowledging the metaphorical ground of history in which the hotel now stands.
LUMA Hotel San Francisco's GATHER boasts 7,250 square feet of dynamic meeting and event space, providing a central base for corporate groups and celebrations of all sizes. Each of the eight versatile rooms feature fully integrated Avidex digital connectivity, including lighting, sound and projection embedded into the room's bluetooth system for effortless control and the ability to bring any style of event to life. Boardrooms are equipped with Mersive technology for seamless optimized remote capabilities for more intimate meetings, with breakout space featuring lounge seating and an extended tabletop work area to round out the offerings.
Innovative Guest Experience
Designed with the pro athlete in mind, the property is home to GLOW FIT, a 1,500 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center that aims to energize and motivate guests during their stay. The space features premium cardio equipment including Precor Ellipticals, Assault Air Runners and Air Bikes, Aviron rowing machine and TRX, alongside universal hand and free weights. In partnership with neighboring SpinOut Fitness, guests receive a 90-minute water bike experience for two around the San Francisco Bay, alongside a pre-packed picnic and LUMA+Path refillable water bottles in a signature LUMA Hotel backpack to enjoy along the route. Additional programming and packages will be available in the coming months.
Eclectic Food & Beverage
A multitude of culinary options serve at the helm of LUMA Hotel San Francisco, including a coffee bar, grab-and-go marketplace and rooftop lounge, with a full-service ground floor restaurant set to debut in 2023.
The in-room dining menu highlights Mission Bay neighborhood favorites, including Tyler Florence's Miller & Luxe with items like Truffle Deviled Eggs and the M&L Burger, in addition to select items from New Belgium Brewing Company. For high-tech quick service, LUMA's digital curator and robot HENRY will hand deliver in-room dining orders straight to a guest's hotel room.
TWYNE brews SIGHTGLASS, located on the ground floor in COMMUNITY, houses sustainably sourced coffee from Bay Area-founded Sightglass Roasters, paired alongside a menu of baked goods from Craftsman and Wolves with cold brew and kombucha available on tap. LUMA Hotel's Bodega features a curated assortment of snacks and bites from local purveyors such as La Cocina, Nana Joes Granola, and famed neighborhood deli Jackson Market. TWYNE is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the Bodega operating 24 hours.
Set to open later this summer on the 17th floor is LUMA's 5,500 square foot fully-enclosed rooftop bar and lounge. Featuring 180 degree views of the city and adjacent neighborhood, the rooftop space includes two outdoor terraces and a satellite bar with views overlooking Oracle Park and Chase Center, in addition to a DJ booth for private and social events. Upon opening, the Sky Lounge will offer light bites influenced by South American elevated street food and beverage pairings with influence from San Francisco's craft cocktail scene, specifically highlighting mezcal and Chilean wines.
