California-based TMC Hospitality's announces a second boutique hotel under the Drift moniker, opening Fall 2022 in downtown Santa Barbara.
In partnership with local architecture firm ANACAPA, TMC paid special attention to ensuring the traditional Italian Mediterranean architectural skin of the building dating back to the 1920s was carefully preserved and restored while imbuing the interiors with a bold, minimalist aesthetic. The combination of styles allows the 45-key property to pay homage to the Drift brand's roots while simultaneously maintaining a strong local identity.
With floor-to-ceiling windows across the hotel, natural light and the coastal breeze bring to life the raw materials such as oak, concrete and brass and open up the spaces to the both the bustle of State Street as well as the striking views of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Artwork by locals including Will Adler and Anacapa Ceramics, further tie Drift Santa Barbara to its regional roots.
In celebration of California's way of indoor-outdoor living, on-site f&b concepts Dawn and Dusk extend into the neighborhood promenade, encouraging guests to get outside and explore the area after a coffee or cocktail. Dawn kicks off the day with an airy space full of warm textiles, natural wood and bright white walls while serving Good Citizen Coffee Co. and savory house baked treats. Dusk, in contrast, is a moody agave and tapas bar ensconced in a space outfitted with dark steel and raw wood which features craft cocktails and seasonal takes on fresh ceviche, aguachile and crudo.
