Songtsam Resorts Unveils Newest Property: Songtsam Lodge Yading
Scheduled for August 202440 RoomsHotel website
Songtsam Hotels Resorts & Tours, an award-winning luxury boutique hotel collection located in the Tibet and Yunnan Provinces of China, is opening its 18th property, Songtsam Lodge Yading. Located in Yading Village in China's Sichuan Province, this 40-room property is surrounded by picturesque mountains, specifically the Three Sacred Mountains of Daocheng, known for representing wisdom, compassion, and courage among locals.
Songtsam Lodge Yading purposefully faces southeast, the direction of the rising sun, providing each room with a breathtaking view of the region's snow-capped mountain range as well as of the "golden sunrise" every evening. The resort is also made up of three separate houses, appropriately named Yangmaiyong, Xia'nodorjee and Xiannairi, after the Three Sacred Mountains.
Led by the founder of Songtsam, Mr. Baima Duoji, and Songtsam's in-house engineering team, each house was purposefully designed to look and feel as traditional "Black Zang Houses," where each is made of natural stone and adorned with by wooden black doors and windows. This design style, and choice of materials and colors reflects Khamba tradition, typically found in Eastern Tibet.
The interior décor of the hotel echoes its natural landscape and commemorates the local culture and history of the region through what past explorers have experienced before. For instance, in 1928, American explorer Joseph Rock crossed through Yading twice and made the village known to the world. Inspired by this, British writer James Hilton wrote Lost Horizon. Through the design's color combinations of white, red, green, and blue, as well as the selection of cortical and metallic materials, Lodge Yading depicts the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures from Locke's perspective, while gently echoing its local nomadic culture.
For those looking to explore and properly immerse themselves in Yading Village's culture during their stay will have access to the resort's experienced travel guides that will take guests to must-see places in the region while providing key insight on its culture. Guests can expect to hike along the Three Sacred Mountains of Yading while learning about the region and its history by hearing local tales and by seeing what explorers such as Joseph Rock once saw years ago. Additionally, within each of Songtsam Lodge Yading's three houses lives a local Sichuan family, providing guests the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of Yading Village and the Songtsam staff an authentic perspective that's invaluable when welcoming visitors from around the world.
Songtsam Lodge Yading offers authentic culinary experiences through its onsite dining options that include a Hot Pot restaurant as well as Horizon, a restaurantspecializing in rustic Tibetan cuisine using quality local ingredients abundant in the area such as tsampa (Tibetan and Himalayan staple meal made of roasted flour), yogurt, locally made hot pot broth, and yak meat. The resort will soon open Lock Theme Cafe and Songtsam Kitchen, where guests can enjoy local specialties and fast-food snack options while on property.
Guests will also have access to Songtsam SPA, a Himalayan spa brand under Songtsam Resorts where guests can indulge in wellness experiences only offered in the region. Based on unique geographical conditions and the core of Tibetan spiritual culture, Songtsam's SPA culture integrates healing elements from Tibet, India, Nepal and other Asian countries to offer guests the opportunity to embark on a journey of physical and mental exploration.
In addition to the property, Songtsam Resorts is also set to open culture centers near the resort in the coming months, which will include the Shambhala Culture Museum, Yading Gallery, and Intangible Heritage Experience Center; each showcasing how Yading came to be, its culture, and artistic heritage. When all three have completed construction, a long scroll depicting Shambhala culture will be jointly presented by Songtsam Lodge Yading and its "neighbors".
About Yading: Three Sacred Mountains
In Tibetan, Yading means "the place facing the sun". The world-famous Three Sacred Mountains of Daocheng sit nearby and are the embodiment of wisdom, compassion and courage. According to legend, the merit of circling around the sacred mountain once is equivalent to chanting the Mantra 100 million times. On your journey to the sacred mountain, don't miss Chonggu Temple, which faces the sacred mountain and backs onto the canyon, quietly guarding the secrets of Shambhala. Near Chonggu Temple, the River Zhuomalatso, known as the "Pearl Sea," reflects the image of Xian Nairi. The tranquil snow-capped mountains, open meadows, winding River Gongga and wooden houses among green grass are the epitome of idyllic pastoral beauty. For an adventurous hike, visit the Milk Sea Luorongtso and the Sea of Five Colors Nakatsomu, both above 4,500 meters.
