Marriott International, Inc. and the Fametro Group, led by Wellington Lins and Maria do Carmo Seffair, announced a signed agreement to convert an iconic property in the capital city of the Amazonas to a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, a collection brand within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio known for providing hotels that are designed to reflect the character and community of their surrounding locations.

"As the capital city of the Amazonas, Manaus serves as the gateway for local and international travelers to access the natural beauty of one of the world's most spectacular biomes: the Amazon rainforest. The city attracts tourists from all over the world, and we are confident it will be a great success among our over 210 million Marriott Bonvoy members, and significantly contribute to the city's tourism development" said Michael Leon, Senior Director of Development for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America. "Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio of over 30 global leading hotel brands, is a collection of characterful, independent hotels drawn together by their passion for captivating design and their drive to create vibrant social scenes for guests and locals alike, and we are confident this property will be the perfect fit within the portfolio".

In alignment with the independent essence and authenticity of the Tribute Portfolio brand, the existing property will retain elements of its original architecture. Originally opened in March 1976, the iconic colonial-style hotel was renowned as a global destination, attracting prominent celebrities and influential figures of its time.

This first Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Brazil is anticipated for a phased reopening starting at the end of 2024 with extensive rooms and suites, the property will offer an array of amenities, such as a large wave pool, gym, spa, sports courts, meeting rooms and kids' space during its initial phases. Dining options on property will include various restaurants, including one with a stunning panoramic view of the Rio Negro. Additionally, guests of the hotel will have access to an orchidarium, a chapel, and pier for vessels navigating Amazon's Rio Negro, all planned for future stages of development.

The hotel is expected to reintroduce the timeless essence of the former property, Hotel Tropical's heritage to the international tourism scene. "When we found out about the hotel auction, we thought we couldn't let this jewel of Amazonian tourism go into the hands of people other than Amazonians." said the Grupo Fametro President, Wellington Lins.

Maria do Carmo, a representative of Grupo Fametro, underscored the significance of reopening the hotel for tourism in the State of Amazonas. "The world is eager to explore the Amazon, and soon, we will offer a genuine immersion experience complemented by the premium amenities the brand is known for. We anticipate this development will drive growth in both the hotel and tourism sectors throughout the country." Manaus is known as the gateway to the Amazon River, offering both visitors and locals the opportunity to experience the untouched beauty of the rainforest, explore colonial architecture, and encounter the region's fascinating wildlife. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the rich indigenous culture, savor the local flavors, and create lifelong memories in this authentic destination."

With nearly 120 hotels across over 25 countries and territories, Tribute Portfolio resonates with travelers who seek unique, independent experiences and a strong connection with local communities. From boutique resorts like Ermita in Cartagena and urban retreats such as the Bellyard in Atlanta and Hotel Riomar in Ibiza, each Tribute Portfolio property embraces its distinctiveness, offering guests vibrant and refreshing perspectives.

Honoring the history, culture, and traditions of the Amazonas, the property is making a triumphant return to the heart of Manaus under the Tribute Portfolio brand. This debut in the country showcases the unique charms, vibrant colors, captivating scents, and distinctive flavors of Brazil as found only in the Amazon.
