After a devastating fire, the iconic Nantucket property has been meticulously rebuilt from the foundation up, featuring spa-like en-suite baths in every room, expanded outdoor spaces, and design elements that honor the original 1684 building.
Nantucket Island's renowned Veranda House will reopen to locals and travelers alike this April, following a full-scale restoration that came as the result of a fire that necessitated a complete demolition of the building in 2022. Owned by TPG Hotels & Resorts as part of the Nantucket Resort Collection, the rebuild was carefully managed in collaboration with the town and historic district commission to preserve the original charm and character. The property honors its historic roots by faithfully recreating its size, scale, and signature architectural elements, now enhanced with improved amenities, ADA compliant features, and state of the art life safety and information technology systems.
This distinctive, federal-style mansion is named for its intricate wraparound verandas that have made the property an iconic staple in old Nantucket town since 1684. In a nod to its past, a preserved piece of the original veranda was used as a model in the rebuilding process, ensuring that the charm and character of the original structure lives on. Inside, the property offers 19 tranquil rooms, ranging from Petite Queen rooms to the luxurious Grand Harborview King, which features a fireplace and private balcony with stunning views of Nantucket harbor. All room types also offer spa-like en-suite baths, with gorgeous Carrera marble and custom fixtures, along with updated walk-in showers.
Guests can unwind in Veranda House's bright and airy common space, a large, inviting room that includes areas for dining and lounging. The entire property features a serene and cohesive design reflecting the island's coastal charm, with calming, cool-toned hues inspired by the sea and shore, and soft wood tones that invoke an elevated nautical vibe. Additional design elements throughout the hotel pay homage to its rich history, from signage inspired by the original building to a historic photograph gallery wall in the lounge.
In addition to its elegant interior spaces, Veranda House also boasts extensive outdoor grounds, featuring a beautifully manicured lawn and designated seating areas for guests to lounge and mingle. The property's garden, lovingly maintained by a full-time gardener, also offers guests an intimate way to engage with Nantucket's famed island culture. Reminiscent of an English country garden, it boasts flowers, grasses, and trees that transition beautifully throughout the summer, as well as custom-built flower boxes that elevate the island's tradition of ornate window boxes. The hotel has also adorned its outdoor spaces with furniture that reflects the elevated coastal charm of its interior, featuring elements of wicker and of course, Adirondack chairs throughout the area.
Along with its updated amenities and outdoor spaces, Veranda House will continue to offer its premium guest experience. Guests can start the day with the property's signature breakfast in the newly revamped dining room, featuring an assortment of artisan pastries, fresh fruit, locally sourced eggs, and more.
