John Rice has been appointed General Manager at Shangri-La Singapore
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is pleased to announce the executive appointment of Mr. John Rice as General Manager of Shangri-La Singapore on 1 November 2021, helming the Shangri-La Group's first hotel comprising 792 guestrooms and suites across three distinctive wings amidst 15 acres of lush tropical gardens located in the heart of the city. In addition to this new capacity, Mr. Rice also holds the position of Vice President, Operations (Philippines), and will continue to oversee all the Shangri-La properties in the Philippines region.
An Australian national, Mr. Rice brings with him extensive knowledge and expertise in the luxury hospitality sector, with senior Shangri-La leadership appointments in Mainland China and the Philippines. He will assume an integral role in elevating the hotel to new heights and strengthening the brand reputation of Shangri-La Singapore.
Prior to his arrival in Singapore, Mr. Rice was instrumental in leading high performing hotel teams across six hotels and resorts in Manila, Cebu and Boracay; and played a pivotal role in leading the teams through the COVID-19 pandemic by identifying new revenue streams, launching new business initiatives and driving commercial results. He was also responsible for spearheading the opening of Shangri-La The Fort, Manila, the Shangri-La Group's first mixed-use lifestyle destination consisting of guestrooms, serviced residences, private homes, two levels of sports complex and over 40 retail spaces in the same destination.
As the General Manager of Shangri-La Singapore, Mr. Rice supervises the daily operations of the hotel including Shangri-La Apartments and Residences, and will be responsible in driving commercial growth, inspiring service excellence, enhancing guest engagement, strengthening community partnerships and elevating the hotel's luxury family positioning.
