The Middle East (especially Dubai) loves to speak in superlatives. The tallest building, the most expensive restaurant and the most luxurious hotel… All terms we are familiar with in this part of the world.

At Hotelier Middle East, we don’t often speak in superlatives. That is until it came to writing this General Power 100 2022 list, which we can comfortably confirm contains 100 of the very best and brightest general managers not only working in the region, but anywhere in the world.

Last year’s list launched at a time where the industry was keen to share its resilience following the pandemic. After the effects of Covid-19, nobody was quite sure when the industry would return to its former glory.

The achievements, the stories and the figures in this list prove the region is not only back to pre-pandemic splendour, but is already running ahead of it in many instances. General managers have managed to drive down staff turnover rates, promote people who stuck through the most trying of times and rekindle international stays and finances.

This has been seen across segments and cities. Certainly, the world-famous hotels of Dubai have continued to outdo themselves, but so have hotels across other emirates and other parties of the region thanks to the operational excellence of a general manager.

In alphabetical order, the General Manager Power 100 2022 contains 70 of the best general managers in the UAE, another 10 GMs innovating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 10 gearing up for a historical year in Qatar and another 10 top leaders in the wider MENA. Well done to all of them.
