BELTSVILLE, Md. – MICROS Systems, Inc. MCRS, the leading provider of information technology for the hospitality industry, announced today that it is installing the MICROS 3400 Quick Service Advantage (QSA) point-of-sale (POS) system in Carrols Corporation's over 340 Burger King® franchise locations nationwide.

Carrols, headquartered in Syracuse, New York, owns and operates 42 Pollo Tropical restaurants located in Florida in addition to its Burger King® restaurants.

When the Carrols implementation is complete, MICROS will have more than 10,000 POS systems installed in quick service operations worldwide.

MICROS systems are used by franchisees in the top quick service chains including Burger King®, Wendy's®, Arby's®, KFC®, Dairy Queen®, TACO BELL®, SUBWAY® and Popeyes® as well as non-traditional quick service operations such as bakeries and bagelries.

Carrols selected the MICROS 3400 for its advanced functionality and flexibility in supporting its high-volume, high-speed POS transactions at both the counter and the drive-through window. The system's unique "conversational order-taking" feature allows staff to enter an order whatever way the customer places it.

Orders are entered quickly and accurately with minimal keystrokes. Carrols made the decision to install MICROS early in its system evaluation process. Once the MICROS 3400 was selected, Carrols proceeded with rigorous testing and an extensive pilot program. MICROS is now rolling out the POS system in all the Carrols Burger King locations.

"With over 340 restaurants each taking almost 1,000 orders per day, we serve approximately 2.5 million customers weekly," said Ms. Jill Frey, Manager, Restaurant Systems, for Carrols. "MICROS provided a solution that meets our transaction processing needs and dramatically improves order accuracy. The MICROS 3400 helps us serve our customers faster and better, consistently. In addition, the new solution dramatically reduces cashier training time due to the intuitive nature of its graphical user interface and with the high crew turnover rates in the quick service industry, we will see immediate payback."

Frederick F. Goebel, Vice President of Quick Service Solutions for MICROS, said that Carrols was impressed with MICROS's conversational order-taking solution, which simplifies and expedites the order taking process.

"Carrols did not want to be limited in how orders are entered," Mr. Goebel said. "Considering that there are 1,024 ways to order a WHOPPER®, conversational order-taking allows cashiers to take orders as they're given without having to take the time to flip between screens to locate the one that matches the way the order is being given," he added.

According to Carrols, the MICROS 3400 proved to be very reliable and durable in the harsh quick service environment. The POS software runs on the MICROS PC Workstation (PCWS), a compact integrated touchscreen PC that is manufactured to meet the rigorous requirements of the restaurant industry.

Typical Burger King® sites are configured with four touchscreen PCWS units to support order processing at the counter and drive-through windows with five kitchen display systems to track order preparation.
