Green Globe, Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Announce Strategic Alliance
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Green Globe have announced a new environmental partnership.
Green Globe is an independent organisation that provides environmental certification and improvement programmes for travel and tourism companies, communities and consumers around the world. Since 1994, PATA has operated Green Leaf, an environmental awareness programme for the Pacific Asia region.
At World Travel Market in London, Green Globe and PATA Green Leaf signed an agreement to combine their efforts in the field of sustainable tourism. The agreement, which aims to improve product, control costs and enhance service to members, calls for the following:
- PATA Green Leaf will be integrated into the Green Globe programme.
- All PATA Green Leaf members will automatically become Green Globe members and will be offered the membership benefits of Green Globe for one year.
- PATA will encourage its non-Green Leaf members to join Green Globe.
- PATA will hold a permanent seat on the Green Globe Advisory Council.
- Green Globe will develop high-profile awards for excellent environmental performance and will include special Green Leaf Awards for the Pacific Asia region.
"The integration of Green Globe and Green Leaf will serve all of our members well," said Mr. Robert Collier, Chairman, Green Globe. "It makes sense to collaborate, combining our expertise and resources to help the whole industry develop a sustainable future."
"PATA Green Leaf has succeeded at generating awareness," said Mr. John Semone, Director-Office of the Environment & Culture for PATA. "However, it lacked a key ingredient – the environmental monitoring that Green Globe provides. We are delighted to enter this new partnership."
