DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb

For the third year running, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is organizing Career Development Summer Programme (CDSP) for the young UAE nationals from Saturday (July 3) in line with the Emiratisation Task Force for Tourism’s agenda to attract more qualified and skilled nationals into the emirate’s booming hospitality industry.

The four-week programme for women will start today (July 3rd, 2004), while the men’s equal-duration programme get underway on July 31st and will run until August 25.

The DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, said: “The CDSP’s purpose is to give an understanding to the UAE nationals about the hospitality and tourism industry in order to help them decide the career. Most of the jobs offered to the UAE national women are in the field of customer services and personnel management.”

In order to ensure that the initiative’s benefits reach out to more locals, transport to and from Ajman and Sharjah have been arranged.

The CDSP Orientation Day for women will be held at the Emirates Academy for Hospitality Management (EAHM) on July 3 with DTCM, National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA) officials and industry experts addressing the participants.

As many as 45 national women have enrolled themselves for this year’s scheme, more than the previous year.

During the first week, the participants will have the opportunity to learn about hospitality industry, the working of hotels, travel agency and tour management, air ticketing and hotel bookings. They will have the chance to listen and meet the UAE nationals working in the local hotel establishments.

The goal of the 2004 CDSP is to prepare the UAE national full-time job-seekers with the skills, abilities, and knowledge necessary to make good career choices and to be productive in their careers, he added.

Mr. bin Hareb said they will have the opportunity to gain insights into the private sector of the tourism and hospitality industry and make them aware of the career opportunities available to them within the industry.

All of the employers offering work placements during the CDSP are looking to recruit UAE nationals.

The participants will be provided core job skills training, work-based assignments, customer contact skills, communicating in the workplace, job search skills, writing CVs and how to face the job interviews.

A Job Screening Day will be held at the EAHM on July 28 where the employment screening of all CDSP participants and referrals to relevant hotels and tour operators will be carried out.

The participants will be taken on a conducted tour of Dubai’s landmark hotels, including Burj Al Arab, and travel industry establishments like Emirates airline and DNATA.

Hospitality industry specialists will offer inspirational lecture to the participants. The participants will be provided training allowance by the organizations offering them work placements.

DTCM officials are confident that the CDSP will have positive outcomes in the long run as it address the unique needs and aspirations of the UAE nationals.
