Yellowstone Club World Closes on Landmark Purchase in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland -- the Legendary Birthplace of Golf
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. | Yellowstone Club World (YCW), the world's foremost private club providing its members with exclusive access to an array of truly one-of-a-kind experiences in some of the most exclusive and coveted destinations around the globe, announced today its purchase of approximately 265 acres in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
The site, which features an unobstructed view of the Bay of St. Andrews and the historic town of St. Andrews, will be the location for Yellowstone Club World St. Andrews. The private golf club will feature a main stone clubhouse and lodge featuring up to forty 2-bedroom luxuriously appointed suites, a championship 18-hole Scottish-style golf course designed by 1973 British Open champion Tom Weiskopf, a complete practice area, including chipping, pitching and putting greens. Construction on the approved plans for the golf course will commence in the fall of 2006 and is scheduled for completion in 2008.
"This is a significant purchase for YCW and the plans for this site promise a stunning addition to YCW's portfolio of destinations for our Members – one truly worthy of this legendary location," said Tim Blixseth, co-founder and owner of YCW.
"Our Members are avid golfers and it was our goal to offer this destination to them, knowing that it is indeed a golfer's paradise," added Edra Blixseth, co-founder and owner of YCW.
"The opportunity to design a golf course in St. Andrews is a golf course designer's ultimate dream and as a former Open Champion, this is especially true for me. My goal with this course is to create a look that is deep in traditional Scottish style, with perhaps a sod walled bunker or two and when completed, will look like it has been here for hundreds of years!" shared Tom Weiskopf.
The site is located in St. Andrews, a town famed the world over as the legendary birthplace of golf, where it was first played on the St. Andrews Links course in 1400 A.D. Nearby attractions include the ruins of the castle of the Archbishops of St. Andrews dating in part from the 13th century, remains of the historic St. Andrews Cathedral – the largest cathedral in Scotland, the surrounding towns and picturesque villages of Fife, steeped in Scottish history and the Kingdom's rich architectural heritage, quaint fishing villages in East Neuk, St. Andrews Bay featuring a sweeping coastline of river estuaries, sandy shores and dramatic cliffs, art galleries, museums as well as the British Golf Museum.
"When ready in 2008, Yellowstone Club World St. Andrews will definitely be one of the world's foremost private golf-clubs, set in the world's most acclaimed golf destination," said Dieter Huckestein, President & CEO of YCW. "And with such diverse yet equally fascinating destinations as our fully restored 14th century chateau located just outside Paris, luxurious Palapa-style bungalows on a private stretch of Mexico's Pacific coastline, an expansive estate on a private island in Turks & Caicos, an authentic dude ranch in Wyoming, plus an exquisite golf and spa resort in a private enclave of Palm Springs; YCW Members will without a doubt enjoy our portfolio of destinations along with the unparalleled amenities and services featured at our destinations."
