AUSTIN, TEXAS | Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), along with the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), announced today that the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) examination will be available online starting April 21. The exam for the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE) will be available online soon.

"This is an important and exciting time for HFTP and the CHTP designation. It is only proper that an exam for a technology designation be offered in the most high-tech, convenient format available," said Frank Wolfe, CAE, HFTP executive vice president and CEO. "By providing the CHTP exam online, the CHTP certification will be readily available to hospitality technology professionals around the world."

The 250-question online exam will provide a faster process with instant e-mail results and can be taken from any computer. A paper-based version of the exam will still be available. The exam, online or paper-based, must be proctored by an HFTP Certified Individual.

The CHTP exam also includes new questions regarding emerging hospitality technologies. Other exam questions cover: technology concepts; specific hotel systems (i.e. PMS); systems rooted in other industries but also used in the hospitality sector (i.e. the Internet); and general hotel management practices. Developed jointly by HFTP and the EI, the CHTP designation elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry by helping to set standards for the field. The CHTP exam was first given in 1994 at HITEC in Dallas, Texas. Since then, more than 250 professionals have earned the CHTP designation representing countries from North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

HFTP sponsored the online testing for EI's professional certification programs. The sponsorship enabled EI to purchase testing software to host online testing. Besides the CHTP, EI plans to hold online testing for the CHAE, the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA), Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS), and Master Hotel Supplier (MHS), as well as certification programs for department heads, managers and specialized positions such as security and trainers.
