Singapore | Wellness Media presents a gathering of business leaders, innovative entrepreneurs and experienced hoteliers at the SpaAsia Wellness Summit 2007 to be held on October 3- 5, 2007 in Manila, Philippines which will gather over 300 delegates and participants ranging from CEOs, directors, spa proprietors, journalists, healers, doctors, therapists and trainers to owners, financiers, investors, developers and development teams who have made invaluable contribution to the Asia Pacific spa industry.

Industry experts and noted speakers will present keynote addresses, dissect case studies, unravel research findings and helm various discussion panels. All these are geared towards reaching ‘an unspoken agreement’ on pertinent issues affecting the future of the spa and wellness industry at large.

Among the invited speakers are: Susan Harmsworth, Founder and CEO of ESPA; Professor Mary Tabacchi from Cornell Hotel School; Bryan Durocher, Founder of Durocher Enterprises, Professor Marc Cohen, Founding Professor of Complementary Medicine at RMIT University and Grace Gawler, Internationally renowned holistic wellness practitioner, author and herbalist.

Each year the Summit grows in scope and diligently takes into account the escalating concerns, interests and feedback from delegates and industry stakeholders. In 2007, ‘Wellness’ and ‘Going Green’ have been identified as global trends that demand to be heard. Among those speaking at the Summit are:

Raymond Nadeau

Ethics and opulence as not mutually exclusive? Spiritual and moral well-being as the ultimate luxury? Raymond Nadeau thinks so, and who’s to disagree? The Creative Director, Copywriter and Author’s credentials lend great weight to his observations of the megatrends in a brave new world for the spa and wellness industry. Nadeau is affiliated with GDR, Urbintra Entertainment, Arrow, LBLM, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez.

Raymond Nadeau says “I am very excited to be part of the event … part of my most recent focus has been on something I refer to as the ‘wellness dividend’ based on research that suggests (from a consumer perspective) the correlation between wellness and financial stability. What this may suggest is a whole new way for consumers to see wellness…”

Anna Bjurstam

From initial contractual negotiations, creating tailor-made business solution packages to inspiring and teaching line staff the importance of magical delivery of treatments, her grasp of every aspect of spas has earned her a deserved reputation as a Master of Spa.

Anna Bjurstam says “I am eager to share some of the strategies that I use in order to operate spas that are both desirable to the customer, and profitable for the owner. The goal of my presentations is provide a blueprint for a management strategy for the upcoming six to eight month period, and to provide a platform on which to further develop your spa business.”

John Travis

As the pioneer behind the world's first wellness centre, John Travis has been gearing the industry’s education and nurturing wellness professionals worldwide for many years. With a practical whole-self approach to wellness and healthy living, his insight into the significance of preventive medicine was foreseen 32 years ago. This indication of how we should live our lives in the 21st century is encapsulated in his Wellness Energy System focusing on the whole person, to great health, vitality and happiness. Moving with the times he remains both a pioneer and innovator cutting through the hype of development in online wellness.

John Travis says, “As spas move into the wellness area, I think it's crucial that they provide resources for their clients to engage in a lifelong wellness program, not just attempt quick fixes. Spas can build ongoing relationships with their clientele by: 1) assessing their level of wellness with tools like the Wellness Inventory, 2) assisting them in developing a wellness plan for making changes in the areas identified in the assessment, and 3) providing ongoing support as they make the changes. Connection—the currency of wellness!”

Lisa Starr

Currently the senior East Coast business consultant to new and existing salons and spas for Wynne Business, a leading spa consulting company in the United States, Lisa shares her knowledge and experience gathered from 27 years spanning a wide range of subjects, including business operations and finances, marketing and advertising, inventory management, human resource development, sales and public relations.

Lisa Starr “My three sessions at the Wellness Summit will follow a timeline from understanding where you are, planning how to go farther, and then managing that growth strategy. The sessions are each informative on their own, but by attending all three you will be provided with a blueprint for a management strategy for the upcoming six to eight month period, to provide a platform on which to further develop your spa business. I hope to see you there!”

Past events saw delegates from various sectors, the greater majority of whom hailed from the spa, wellness and health sectors from across the globe. An increasing number of hoteliers, spa hotel/resort chain operators and hotel groups are expected to attend. This year, speakers from major spa and hotel groups such as the Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, the Jumeirah Group, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and MSpa International are among those confirmed to make presentations.

The highlight of the Summit is the SpaAsia Crystal Awards ceremony which is traditionally held on the second evening of the Summit. This much-awaited event singles out excellence in various categories of the spa industry in Asia Pacific. This is the moment that only one brand in each category will be accorded the honour to bask in the limelight for being the BEST among the best. SpaAsia Crystal Awards has become an accolade equivalent to receiving recognition of industry excellence in the Asia Pacific region.

Past recipients of the SpaAsia Crystal Awards include the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, JW Marriott Resort and Spa Phuket, Conrad Bali Resort & Spa, Spa Village Pangkor Laut Resort, Chiva-Som International Health Resort, The Farm at San Benito, The Sentosa Resort & Spa and Six Senses Resorts & Spas.

The Philippine Department of Tourism will also launch a campaign on “Islands of Wellness” and will host post tours for media in Cebu, Palawan, Bohol, Boracay and Davao.

The SpaAsia Wellness Summit will be held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila, Philippines and is organized by Wellness Media/Partners in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, Philippines.
