The Intercontinental New York Times Square Hotel

NEW YORK CITY, NY – July 12, 2010 was a memorable day for the IHG family of hotels with the opening of the 36 story 607 room InterContinental New York Times Square hotel. Situated on 44th Street just west of Times Square, the new build hotel is in the heart of the Broadway Theater district and a short stroll from Fifth Avenue shopping and world class museums.

General Manager Drew Schlesinger stated, "Opening the doors to this hotel has been the moment that we as a team have been anxiously waiting for. There is something so gratifying about watching guests enter and fill the lobby. We are extremely proud of the product and service we have to offer and look forward to welcoming our guests!"

The first guest of the New York Times Square hotel was Ms. Maureen Warwick, a Priority Club member, who was officially welcomed to the InterContinental New York by Mr. Jim Abrahamson, President of IHG Americas, Mr. Lewis Fader, Vice President Operations, InterContinental, North America, Mr. Hervé Houdré, IHG Regional Director of Operations and Mr. Drew Schlesinger, General Manager. Ms. Warwick has been joined by thousands of other guests who have also selected the InterContinental as their New York City hotel of choice. Guests enjoy spectacular views from the floor to ceiling windows, the lobby courtyard viewing garden with reflecting pool and sculptures and Times Square restaurants newest addition, Ça Va, the inspiration of Todd English, one of the most respected and charismatic chefs in the world.

To celebrate the official opening of the new InterContinental New York Times Square, a grand opening ceremony was hosted in its honor. The Times Square Hotel is pending LEED certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) by the US Green Building Council and held a ceremony true to those values, the traditional red carpet was traded in for a green sod and the ribbon was replaced with a vine provided by the New York City Parks Department.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg
attended the
official opening and highlighted the fact that the InterContinental is the largest new build in NYC this year, quite a feat considering there are forecast to be 7,500 new hotel rooms entering Manhattan during 2010. During his speech Mayor Bloomberg also acknowledged the hotel for its commitment to the environment as well as the positive impact the opening has had on the community with the creation of 400 new jobs. Mayor Bloomberg proudly noted, "This is jobs—J-O-B-S for Jets fans—jobs for our city".

Since the opening of the hotel in mid-July, patrons are flocking to one of the newest New York City hotels with its fabulous location in the New York Theater District, close proximity to New York City shopping and inside access to the most intriguing new New York City restaurant Ça Va. The addition of the InterContinental to the New York Times Square hotels community is a reflection of the commitment of IHG and InterContinental to the growth and development of exceptional hotel properties worldwide.
