176 students at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) received their Diploma of Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management – Corporate Economist HES, after four years of studies, at the Graduation Ceremony held on 25 February.

A further 32 students received their Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management at a ceremony held on 9 February in recognition of their two years of study.

Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management – Corporate Economist HES

176 students in the Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management – Corporate Economist HES Programme have graduated, 88 from the French Section and 88 from the English Section. Amongst them, 18 students graduated with honours. There are three specializations: Finance, Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

All the graduates received their diplomas from Mr Michel Rochat, General Director of EHL, and Mr Horatio Tudori, Director of the Bachelor Programme.

Honours awarded for the Bachelor Programme – Graduating Class of 2011:

  • Valedictorian: Monica Reggiani (English Section)
  • 2ndbest student: Cécile Stüby (French Section)
  • 3rd best student: Cyril Nussbaum (French Section)

Prize for the best dissertation:

  • Stephan Blunschi (English section): "The motivational power of meaningful work - How sustainability initiatives improve work performance through their impact on Task Significance"
  • Debora Gassmann (English section): "The Impact of Reference Groups in Relation to Social Media and Travel"

Prize for Corporate Social Responsibility: Nicholas Holm (English section), for his social and environmental project in Malaysia:

When he was in high school, Nicholas supported a project through fundraising thanks to which a spring was built in a village. Then, as a team leader, he raised funds to allow the heart transplant of a young girl who was in an emergency and with little financial means. His involvement, his philosophy of life and his future plans have also influenced the jury. Nicholas has chosen to give his prize money to a microcredit institution.

The Spirit of EHL Prize: Jennifer Verdumo (French section)

Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management

32 students graduated from the Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management Programme, 14 from the French Section and 18 from the English Section.

The 32 graduates received their diplomas from Mr Michel Rochat, General Director of EHL and Mrs Arlette Walther, Director of the Diploma Programme.

Honours for the Diploma Programme – Graduating Class of February 2011:

  • Valedictorian: Oliver DARWIN (English Section)
  • 2nd best student: Jessica CAMILLERI (English Section)
  • 3rd best student: Emily PARK (English Section)

Prize for the best project: Jessica CAMILLERI (English Section)

Jessica's project was original, realistic and extremely professional. She captured the Swiss spirit in all 3-parts of the project: the rooms, the restaurant and the three sales points. All in all, this was a coherent project that could be applied in reality.

The Spirit of EHL Prize: Jonathan WALKER (French Section)

Under the aegis of Mr Michel Rochat, General Director of EHL, each of the Graduation Ceremonies also provided an opportunity to give the floor to Faculty members and students.

Dedicated to the theme of the Academic Year, "Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility", both ceremonies welcomed Mr Ugo Toselli, EHL (2001), an associate of Eco2Initiative (www.eco2initiative.com) in Paris, who spoke of the impacts of climate change on the tourist industry over the coming ten years.

These magnificent graduation ceremonies celebrated the end of a period of study that was both enriching and interesting for our students, who were delighted to celebrate their entry into the professional world together.
