• Sol Magaluf Park Hotel will open its doors in 2013 becoming the new Sol Katmandu Resort
  • The agreement also includes entertainment benefits for Sol Hotels" guests in the area

Katmandu Park, a new generation theme park located in Mallorca, Spain, has joined forces with Meliá Hotels International, one of the largest operators of holiday resorts worldwide, to bring a new entertainment experience to the island, a new landmark for the family and youth market. For the 2013 tourist season, the Sol Magaluf Park hotel, adjacent to the Katmandu Park, will be transformed into a Katmandu-themed hotel. Known as Sol Katmandu Resort, the project will offer the island's only hotel park resort experience. Guests will enjoy a variety of exclusive entertainment benefits in Katmandu Park including unlimited entry until 6pm on all ticketed attractions each day of their stay and a private gated entrance to the park from the hotel. Katmandu's famous Yeti, Boro, and other park characters will also make appearances at the hotel children's club and other events.

The theming of the hotel includes plans for special effects on the three facades of the hotel exterior and innovative architectural mapping encompassing the hotel's entire north-western façade for an evening event.

Starting in June of this year, guests of all Sol Hotels located in the Palmanova and Magaluf areas will enjoy the special privileges of the "Sol FunPass". This unique entertainment card guarantees that Sol guests will receive the best value in the marketplace to both Katmandu Park attractions and its sister attraction, Golf Fantasia, for their entire length of stay, along with free entry to certain ticketed attractions within each park.

Both Producciones de Parques (the owner of Katmandu Park) and Melia Hotels International have received full support from officials of Calvià in this collaboration to bring more interest to the area and a special agreement with the municipality"s taxi service is also underway. For just one euro per person, per journey, Sol Hotel guests will be able to travel to and from their hotel to Katmandu Park and Golf Fantasia, or from park to park. An exclusive advertising arrangement has also been announced to promote Katmandu Park and Melia Hotel brands over the next five years. Manuel Onieva, Mayor of Calvià, states "The Sol-Katmandu alliance demonstrates the energy and commitment that these companies have for investing in Calvià. Their innovative projects will set us apart as a premiere tourist destination and make a lasting impression for years to come."

Scott Demerau, Katmandu Park Co-Founder and head of Producciones de Parques, says, "We're excited that our exclusive partnership with Meliá Hotels International will allow us to create Mallorca's first resort concept experience for their hotel guests. Our collaboration is an important step in Mallorca's transformation to once again become the prime destination for Spanish and foreign tourists."

The Sol-Katmandu alliance is part of the initiative that Meliá Hotels International announced in October 2011 to inaugurate a major project in Calvià this summer. Known as "Calvià Beach Resort," the hotel and leisure mega resort is aimed at transforming the Magaluf area.

Gabriel Escarrer, Meliá Vice Chairman & CEO, explains,"we are very happy to announce this new partnership that adds new value to the whole complex of Calvià Beach Resort. Katmandu is an innovative concept that continuously invests in the product´s improvement, and so are the Sol hotels. Both our Katmandu partners and Meliá think that innovation, creativity, and quality are a 'must' if we want Magaluf, and Mallorca in general, to be a competitive tourism destination. "

Owned by Producciones de Parques, Katmandu Park has grown steadily since its inception five years ago to become one of Mallorca's top attractions. Producciones de Parques also owns and operates Golf Fantasia in Palma Nova, and together the two parks entertained more than 300,000 visitors in 2011. The new agreement with Melia Hotels International (formerly Sol Melia) gives Katmandu Park and Golf Fantasia an opportunity for major expansion on the Spanish island which draws approximately 10 million tourists a year.
