Karl Lagerfeld To Design Two Suites For Hôtel De Crillon, Paris
Karl Lagerfeld has been commissioned to design two suites for Hôtel de Crillon, which is currently closed until 2015 for a complete restoration. Lagerfeld will bring his discerning eye, his expert knowledge of the finest craftsmanship and his philosophy of reviving history with an edge to this Parisian landmark, which was originally built in 1758.
In addition to being an icon of the fashion world and an outstanding photographer, Karl Lagerfeld is renowned as one of the leading connoisseurs of the 18th century. He has chosen to design two of the hotel’s most prestigious suites which he sees as “grand apartments.”
“We are delighted that Karl Lagerfeld has agreed to work with us on the restoration of Hôtel de Crillon. Our core philosophy is A Sense of Place® and no-one understands Paris or the heritage of Hôtel de Crillon better than Mr. Lagerfeld,” says Radha Arora, President of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®.
Hôtel de Crillon, which recently joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, enjoys an unrivalled position on Place de la Concorde, the most enviable address in Paris. Its walls are alive with history and the building has stood through the reign of two French Kings, the French Revolution, the rise and fall of the Napoleonic Empire and the birth of the League of Nations.
The current restoration, which will be completed in 2015, will add a contemporary polish to the hotel while remaining respectful of its traditions and faithful to its character. The architect of this ambitious restoration is Richard Martinet while the new interiors are being created, under the artistic direction of Aline d’Amman, by three Paris-based decorators, Chahan Minassian, Cyril Vergniol and Tristan Auer.
