The Gregory Hotel Makes Its Debut in NYC

The Gregory, a new 132-room boutique hotel located at 42 West 35th Street in NYC has officially opened its doors. Steps away from one of Manhattan's most active and prime transportation and retail hubs, The Gregory offers serenity and hospitality, embracing the creativity of Silicon Alley, and embodying the bespoke craftsmanship of the Fashion District, all in the heart of Herald Square. Inspired by a townhouse, inherited from creative and inspiring parents, the Gregory represents all the comforts of home in a cool and curated fashion to provide the authentic New York City experience. This project marks the second collaboration between Interstate Hotels & Resorts, hotel Asset Value Enhancement (hotelAVE), and Meadow Partners, the team behind The Renwick, which is launching this fall at 118th East 40th Street in NYC.

The hotel first opened as The Gregorian in 1903 to cater to the overflow of well-to-do guests checking into the original Waldorf-Astoria, now the site of the Empire State Building. Following a $10M complete renovation, today's Gregory pays homage to its old world past while delivering an experience tailored to the needs of the young, cultured traveler seeking the authentic spirit of New York City. The elaborate intricacies of the original architecture, including soaring high ceilings and mosaic tile detailing, have been infused today with modern amenities to create a timeless yet fresh aesthetic made evident throughout each of the hotel's guestrooms.

New York-based design firm Bill Rooney Studio was tapped to bring the project to life. The design draws its origin from its early 20th century heritage of the original hotel. The modern face-lift highlights the original classic architectural elements juxtaposed against a curated modern aesthetic. The rooms have been reinvented and edited by using a bright contrast of black, white, and gray which provides a fresh environment that highlights vintage architectural elements such as the bay windows, high ceilings, moldings, and entry doors. The well-appointed composition provides the guest with a restful, modern environment that highlights the charm and grace of the original. Art adds humor and interest to the rooms composed of modern and graphic silhouettes illustrating vintage fashion and iconic imagery. Bathrooms, many of them with windows, feature amenities crafted exclusively for the hotel by Brooklyn-based skin care line, Apotheke, known for its handmade, quality products.

"We are incredibly excited to expose guests of The Gregory to a new, higher energy New York City hotel and the timing for its launch couldn't be more perfect in conjunction with the first-ever Men's Fashion week," said Susan Richardson, Complex Director of Sales and Marketing for The Gregory and The Renwick.

Drawing from the vibrancy of its buzzing neighborhood, The Gregory's interactive and intimate lobby is intently designed as a gathering place for guests and locals alike and is reminiscent of a classic New York City townhouse. A rich walnut herringbone floor welcomes guests who are taken back in time as they check-in seated in front of the stylishly appointed desk that exudes a sense of masculinity one would find during the 1950s in Manhattan. An eye-catching chandelier lights up the room while casting a glow on a massive wall clock that greets guests and adds Upper East Side elegance. Sleek clusters of diverse furniture combinations adjacent to a roaring fireplace encourage patrons to strike up conversation or simply "plug and play". A carefully curated art collection consisting of vintage industrial sewing machines and architectural artifacts results in a fresh, collected, aesthetic that celebrates the neighborhood and the city. Rounding up the lobby area is a stunning marble bar, opposite the check-in space, that provokes worldly interaction by featuring distinct offerings throughout the day, such as freshly pressed locally roasted artisanal coffee and tea in the morning and in the evening the "liquor cabinet" is raided to service inspired craft cocktails. The bar's concept speaks to the hotel's approach of injecting the communal work energy of thriving entrepreneurs during the day, and at night, transforming it into a sophisticated and refined living room library ambience.

Rates at The Gregory start at $379 per night. To learn more, please visit www.thegregoryhotelnewyork.com. Follow The Gregory on Twitter @TheGregoryNYC, on Instagram @thegregorynyc or Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/thegregorynyc.
