The New Axiom Hotel Introduces Contemporary Design to San Francisco This Winter

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Opening in San Francisco's Union Square this winter, the Axiom Hotel (28 Cyril Magnin St.) is bringing together its vision of contemporary and edgy design through urban artwork from the minds of designers Stonehill & Taylor. Owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. and managed by Kokua Hospitality, LLC., the new 152-roomed boutique hotel will feature custom murals from local street artists 1AM, supporting its visualization as a high-tech and design-forward property.

Inspired by the visual representation of the word "Axiom" and the strong angular typeface, the hotel's murals, located in the property's light wells, mimic the word's lines and angles by using a grid of triangles to form a geometric composition. The vibrant pallet of colors contrasts against the gray of the building's exterior and creates a unique surprise for guests as they peer out of guestroom windows. Tying back to the property's interior design concept of energy and connectivity, the murals' colors and shapes create cohesiveness both inside and out.

To further convey the intersection of old and new within the hotel, the Axiom's mezzanine level or "Cloud" will offer an art selection that aims to link the city's historical past with its current moment as a technological metropolis. With aerial photography showcasing the city ablaze with modern life and light lines with high-contrast coloring, the property's artwork will convey the beacon of technological change and connectedness of present day San Francisco.

Further conveying the Axiom's vision of history meets the digital revolution, Stonehill & Taylor will introduce an art collection in the "Library" area located near the lobby. Showcasing the shift the city has undergone in the recent past, the collection's theme is variety creates discussion with vintage photographs intermingled among decidedly modern pieces. In addition, the Golden Gate Bridge is abstracted and displayed in a new light – deconstructed to show the many elements that make up the city's majestic centerpiece.

1AM, short for First Amendment, represents the freedom of speech through their contemporary urban art exhibitions, walls, and classes. Since their launch in San Francisco in 2008, 1AM strives to progress the street art culture while creating a community of artists, fans, and supporting like-minded organizations.
