New Meridien Etoile shines in Paris
French hotel group Le Méridien has opened a new 4-star hotel in the country's capital. Paris itself has been a clear influence on the 1,025 room development, with "etoile" meaning star in French, possibly a reference to Paris' nickname, The City of Lights.
Recently TOPHOTELNEWS published a brand profile about Le Méridien. The brand now has 145 locations throughout the world, including many locations in the United States and Europe, as well as more far flung and exotic locales such as Bali, Bora Bora, and Marrakesh. Le Méridien's future seems to lie in the Asia Pacific region, which also includes Australia. in 2016, has 38 projects underway, which will add up to a total of 10,716 rooms. Of these numbers, 25 projects are in the Asia Pacific region, adding up to 7,409 rooms.

Outwardly, the Méridien Etoile is a large rectangular volume clad in staggered stone and black aluminium panels punctuated by fenestration, which creates a rhythm to the facade. Internally, the interior design sticks to the brand's time honoured tradition of creating contemporary yet classic spaces with a distinctly French flair. The colour palette of every space is uniform, and the greys, ochres and dark blue hues that it employs lend a stylish air to the lobby, restaurants, bars and guest rooms. The soft furnishings and finishings are offset by the warm wooden joinery of bookshelves, tables and reception desks. The development is organised around an internal courtyard onto which tables in the dining area look through floor to ceiling glass windows, flooding the interior with light.
Paris is very much in the details in the hotel; the circular lighting arrangement in the seating area of the foyer sweeps in grand curves overhead and replicated the city's arterial routes that lead to the hotel. In the bedrooms, the grey wall covering behind the bed evokes the axial planning of Paris, while streamlined light fixtures by French designer Jean-Philippe Nuel reference the contours of France's most iconic airplane, the Concorde. The booth at the informal dining area, The Hub, are lined with white tiles, typical of those seen in Parisian Metro stations. The hotels is located on Paris' Right Bank and opposite the Paris Convention Centre, the hotel is only minutes away from famous landmarks such as the Champs-Elysee and the Arc De Triomphe.
