Croatia’s Hotel Amarin is a design delight
Hotel Amarin is a family friendly hotel situated on a landscaped, green peninsula, located just minutes away from the centre of Rovinj. The hotel itself is nestled into the manicured surroundings of a pine forest that juts into beautiful crystal blue waters off the southern coast of Croatia. It was designed by local architecture firm STUDIO UP, who won first prize in an invited competition for the design of the hotel.
The plan of the hotel is designed in a wishbone shape, and two wings spring from a central spine and curve out away and back from the main line of the building, enclosing a swimming pool area on one side and carefully planned gardens on the other. The main challenge of the brief was to integrate the hotel's many different programs and amenities into something familiar and friendly that would appeal to families on holidays with their children. The solution to this was to separate private and public spaces into two distinct stacks to create opportunities for interaction, and to create memories that can be shared. The guest rooms are elevated above the ground while the public parts of the program are located a ground level to promote engagement with other visitors. The spaces between these two areas of private and public are a number of elevated walkways and curving ramps and a playspace made out of cosmic-like netting, resulting in an almost planetary surface, ideal for children to play in.
The public spaces are whimsical in nature – from their unusual materials like the netted playspace to the skewed concrete columns supporting the roof and the asymmetrical swimming pools that pull you in different directions as you swim.
Another Croation Hotel Project currently under construction is the Dubrovnik Pearl Hotel, a very ambitious and highly lucrative venture with a unique goal of creating the world's first "Lifestyle – Tourist – Eco friendly" destination. It´s planned to open in the beginning of 2020
