Moxy on course to take over Europe
Moxy, Marriott International's bold experiential hotel brand that is focused on millennials and young travelers, has its sights set on European domination. The brand has been a huge success since it was launched in 2014, and Marriott is capitalising on its popularity by planning a rollout of the brand in more than 40 new destinations in Europe over the next three years.
More than 50 hotels are in the pipeline for Moxy, and by 2020 the strong UK and German markets should be home to new Moxy branded properties, as well as new markets in France, Portugal and the Netherlands. Marriott's confidence in Moxy is evident by how much it pushed the brand in 2017, and these gains are no doubt propelling the hotel giant to make even more moves to get the soft brand into the European spotlight. Moxy opened its first hotel in Milan three years ago, and now has more than 20 hotels located across the world in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
Putting Moxy on the European map
Moxy already has a strong foothold in the European market, but this is set to increase in a big way by 2020. Germany, which is already home to nine Moxy branded hotels, will see a further sixteen properties opening in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Düsseldorf, among others, by 2019. The UK, another big market for Moxy, will welcome five more hotels by the end of this year. This will also include expansion into the Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as Southampton and York in England. Moxy also recently started its expansion into Scandinavia with the Moxy Oslo, and new hotels are planned in Copenhagen and Stavanger. Hotels will hit Amsterdam and the Hague in the Netherlands, as well as Paris, Lille and Biot in France, Lisbon in Portugal, Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice and Szczecin in Poland, Tbilisi in Georgia, Bern and Lausanne in Switzerland, Dublin in Ireland and Patra in Greece.
The appeal of Moxy
John Licence, Vice President of Premium and Select Brands at Marriott International, Europe, spoke about the brand's appeal, saying, "Moxy was developed to respond to the changing needs of the next generation of travellers and it is this tailored experience that has made it so appealing to both guests and developers alike. Moxy Hotels allow our guests to not take themselves too seriously, providing them with personalized experiences in a well-designed space that is surprisingly affordable, with the latest technology and plenty of social spaces that blend work and play. Giving guests all the fun, comfort and style without the hefty price tags has helped to set the brand up for success in Europe and beyond." Expect Moxy to become an even bigger hitter over the next couple of years.
