GRAND RAPIDS, MI - West Michigan-based hospitality management company AHC+Hospitality is forming an alliance with neighboring hotels, restaurants and local businesses within Downtown Grand Rapids to establish the "Hotel District." Bolstered by the upcoming openings of AC Hotel Grand Rapids Downtown and Hyatt Place Grand Rapids/Downtown, the neighborhood-wide initiative cements the district as a leading Midwest destination for business and leisure travel.

"The Hotel District is a tremendous opportunity to bring renewed attention and energy to the downtown core and elevate all the destination has to offer," said Mayor Rosalynn Bliss, City of Grand Rapids.

Over the past 20 years, the number of hotel rooms has more than doubled within the three-square block radius of the newly formed downtown district, bounded by I-196 Freeway and Fulton Street to the North and South and Division Avenue and US-131 Expressway to the East and West. Located steps from the Van Andel Arena and DeVos Convention Center, the district offers conference-goers and leisure travelers easy access to the riverfront and more than 1850 hotel rooms (617 per square block) within walking distance of each other with nearly all accessible year-round via climate-controlled skywalks.

As the cultural epicenter of Grand Rapids, the Hotel District offers visitors and locals experiences that range from dining atrestaurants serving local favorites or cuisines from around the world; and exploring five of the city's top museums: Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, Grand Rapids African American Museum and Archives, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum, and Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts; to visiting Rosa Parks Circle with its schedule of festivals, concerts, food trucks, and much more.

"Anticipating future growth within the bourgeoning city center, branding the Hotel District reinforces its appeal to meeting and event planners, leisure travelers and locals by encapsulating its dynamic mix of some of the city's renowned restaurants, bars, breweries, coffee shops, music venues and museums into a seamless, walkable experience," said Doug Small, president & CEO, Experience Grand Rapids.

Partner hotels within the district include: Homewood Suites by Hilton Grand Rapids, Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown, Hyatt Place Grand Rapids / Downtown, Amway Grand Plaza, a Curio Collection by Hilton, JW Marriott Grand Rapids, AC Hotel Grand Rapids Downtown, Courtyard Grand Rapids Downtown by Marriott and CityFlatsHotel.

"As local hospitality establishments work toward the common goal of bringing vibrant, sought-after experiences downtown, defining the Hotel District as a united front will make our destination stronger and bring our vision to reality," said Elijah Steinmetz, general manager, Homewood Suites by Hilton.
