Premier Inn announces its rigorous new Premier Inn CleanProtect enhanced hotel hygiene promise to help guests stay with confidence.

News comes after the Government announced hotels in England can reopen to the general public from July 04. Premier Inn will begin a phased opening of its hotels in England from this date, and closely managing occupancy levels.

The launch coincides with new flexible room rates that will help guests' book with confidence in the event their plans may need to change.

Premier Inn has always operated stringent hygiene standards at every stage from check-in to check-out*, and Premier Inn CleanProtect now further enhances these standards in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Developed with suppliers including global cleaning and hygiene product supplier Diversey, the new procedures are in line with both World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Control recommendations, as well as UK government guidance.

Diversey's Head of the UK & Ireland Johan ten Berge said: "We are delighted to have worked with Premier Inn to develop its new enhanced Premier Inn CleanProtect cleaning promise. The enhanced cleaning procedures have been developed in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Control, as well as UK government guidance, and our products are used in conjunction with medical-grade systems. As global cleaning and hygiene specialists, we believe Premier Inn CleanProtect provides the best possible hotel environment for guests and we are proud to support this important initiative".

Managing Director Simon Ewins added: "Premier Inn has long been recognised for its consistently high cleanliness and hygiene standards, which have been finessed over many years of experience, including the millions of rooms we keep sparklingly clean every year. It is from this foundation that we are launching Premier Inn CleanProtect, our rigorous enhanced hotel cleanliness promise, designed to reassure people of the stringent hygiene standards that exist from check-in to check-out".

Changes include acrylic screens at check-in, floor markings, automatically-dispensed hand sanitiser in public areas and new key-return boxes. Teams' will also have use of personal protective equipment (PPE) where appropriate.

The more rigorous cleaning promise builds on Premier Inn's already high standards. It includes increased frequency of cleaning of high-touch locations, such as lift buttons and door handles, using products effective against COVID-19.

Owner Whitbread's restaurants business is also undertaking a phased reopening. In the interim a grab-and-go breakfast box containing porridge, a muffin, juice and fruit will be available in the interim for £4.99.

To ensure customers are able to book with even more confidence, Premier Inn is complementing its existing suite of booking options with a new Standard rate, allowing guests to cancel or amend within 24 hours of making the reservation or amend the booking up to 1pm on the day of arrival.
