Meliá Hotels International Announces The Removal Of Eggs From Caged Hens From Its Supply Chain
Meliá Hotels International, the leading hotel group in Spain, has recently been named one of the most sustainable companies in the world for the third consecutive year in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment published by the sustainable investment agency SAM. The company occupies first place in the 2020 ranking in Spain and Europe, a result that highlights its commitment to combatting climate change and the creation of a responsible supply chain. With a presence in more than 40 countries and as world leaders in the resort hotel segment, Meliá Hotels International was one of the first companies in the world to eliminate products such as turtle soup or shark fins which feature in traditional cuisine in some countries as part of its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, and specifically SDG 12 "Responsible consumption and production".
Changing habits and the growing sensitivity among different stakeholders have led Meliá Hotels International to join other hotel companies in announcing its commitment to ensure that 100% of the eggs consumed in its hotels will be obtained from cage-free hens by the end of 2025, adapting its Policy on Procurement and the Contracting of Responsible Services and publishing an annual report on its progress.
The company would like to emphasise that it will always respect and comply with applicable legislation in all of the destinations in which it operates and in line with its values of coherence, excellence and responsibility.
