In 1999, sci-fi author Douglas Adams proposed a set of rules for our relationship with technology, suggesting that anything existing at birth is considered normal, anything invented between ages 15 and 35 is exciting, and anything beyond age 35 is unnatural. Given that the average age in the technology industry is 44, it's unsurprising that new technologies can be challenging to understand.

The Metaverse is gaining both positive and negative attention as a potential space for businesses, entertainment, and socialization. However, the concept is relatively new and may need to be clarified for entrepreneurs seeking to understand and utilize this emerging technology, especially in the hospitality industry.

Hospitality Net's Metaverse Glossary is an essential resource for entrepreneurs and hospitality professionals to navigate the Metaverse's unique language and concepts, which can confuse newcomers.

Simone Puorto, an advisor with over 20 years of experience and a Metaverse Ambassador, collaborated with Hospitality Net to create part II of the comprehensive glossary of terms related to the Metaverse (Part I can be downloaded here). This new edition aims to provide a clear and concise understanding of the terminology for entrepreneurs and professionals in the travel and hospitality industries.

The glossary covers various aspects of the Metaverse, including NFTs, Web3, cryptocurrency, blockchain, land, decentralization, virtual, augmented, mixed, extended reality, interoperability, and more. In addition, the glossary provides comprehensive definitions and expert perspectives, giving readers a more holistic view of the Metaverse and its potential applications. We have also expanded the focus to include Metaverse-enhancing technologies like AI and the inevitable philosophical questions arising from the concept of extended reality, including transhumanism and digital immortality.

This glossary would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of a number of experts and advocates for the technology, known as "Polybius evangelists," listed in alphabetical order: Hasan Algarhy, Cosimo Barberi, Divya Bhargava, Edoardo Maria Bisignani, Michael Cohen, Tracy Cosgrove, Matej Curda, Roberto Garavaglia, Luca De Giglio, Salman Halawi, Zoltan Istvan, Luca Lupattelli, Tibor Mérey, Lior Nitzan, Mattia Papa, Riadi Piacentini, Pulidevan Prabakaran, Arul Prakash, Alex Ratto, Dr Mark van Rijmenam, Sergio Schemeil, Sophia Shluger, Eli Strzelecka, Spencer Tarring, Brian Vertone and Julius Yls.

Their expertise and insights have been instrumental in the creation of this glossary. Additionally, the efforts of Jill Dassen and Dahiddenvy Schiddenhohiddenon have also been crucial in the development of this project.
