CROWN POINT, IN - Interior Image Group (IIG) is well positioned for continued growth in 2023 with a robust project pipeline and the widely celebrated completion of Hotel West & Main hotelwestandmain.

Hotel West & Main is the first new-build hotel to be constructed in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania in two decades. Previously the site of a 146-year-old historic firehouse - Washington Hose and Steam Fire Engine Company, No. 1 - the hotel features 127 guest rooms, two distinct culinary experiences and sky bar, an upscale fitness center, and more than 5,000 square feet of flexible event space including both indoor and outdoor options. Hotel West & Main joins Hilton’s Tapestry Collection and is in partnership with Concord Hospitality and Keystone. Interior Image Group (IIG) created the property’s interior design and directed branding while DLR Group spearheaded architecture for the project.

An adaptive-reuse and new construction project, the development of Hotel West & Main breathes new life into the existing land and historic buildings as part of Conshohocken’s Sora West Development and creates a new “town square” for the borough. Public spaces and guestrooms are designed with a modern, masculine palette that expresses a refined contrast and a polished patina. Décor and finishes were thoughtfully composed and consist of blues and neutrals, with many wooden and leather textures and brass and industrial finishes throughout.

The new six-story hotel structure is seamlessly linked to the historic three-story firehouse, which blends new ornate details crafted to complement the heritage of the site. The project married a complex renovation of the historic firehouse with the new construction of the hotel tower. Upon entry, visitors are greeted by the lobby bar and lounge 1874 Social, named after the year the firehouse was founded — and Social, referencing the easy-going social club vibe. Capitalizing on the unique indoor/outdoor spaces and dining options are linked to a patio via operable garage doors in the original garage bays for the Washie fire trucks. The Hook and Ladder Skybar & Kitchen is housed where the firehouse’s dormitory once stood.

We believe every space has a unique story and we are intentional in delving deep into the history, nuances, and community behind each space we design. Inspired by the idea of reimagining the social club of a bygone era, Hotel West & Main was an exceptional project to bring to life. By evoking the easy-going vibe of a simpler time, the design personality exudes a sophisticated, yet eclectic style. We added a humorous spin to ordinary objects, making them memorable and relatable to everyone. From locals to business and leisure travelers, we love knowing Hotel West & Main offers them a witty sense of humor and a warm and welcoming environment while reminding them to relax, have some fun, and not to take life too seriously. Leslie Schultz, senior vice president of design, Interior Image Group (IIG)

Upon entering the property, guests will discover many moments from the building’s past. The design team was committed to restoring and keeping architectural components at the forefront. The original tin ceilings, 16’ tall painted windows, metal wall panels, wooden finishes, and wood floors were all restored. The fireman’s lockers became cabinets in the retail and front desk space, with a backdrop that displays a woven fire hose feature. The horn code board is displayed in the main lobby lounge where guests can also see the refurbished firepole in the lobby and on the second floor.

The design strikes a modern balance of the industrial past and the influence of the Main Line’s established opulence. The interior possesses a paradox of style with an authentic and approachable edge that is effortlessly cool. There are many nods to the Conshohocken neighborhood, with thoughtfully curated art in the guest rooms referring to “The Conshy Strut”- a famous dance known by locals. The lobby lounge features art made by scraps of tire woven into elegant rosettes to pay tribute to the Lee Tire Company.

IIG collaborated with a local art and frame gallery to acquire historic photos that were restored and are displayed throughout the hotel showcasing the rich history of the neighborhood. Members of the community were brought into the planning process to weave history into the design. Today Hotel West & Main truly resonates with locals and invites all to stay connected to the property and become rooted in their neighborhood.

IIG began working on the Hotel West & Main project in 2019. With Concord Hospitality and Keystone working together on the project, they decided to expand our scope to include the historic firehouse into the hotel development. Having completed several successful lifestyle brand projects, our design team was eager to create the Hotel West & Main story. Hotel West & Main was a perfect fit to showcase our boutique lifestyle brand design capabilities. Storytelling is at the heart of these projects and our creative team leads the design narrative and collaborates with branding teams to ensure these unique lifestyle projects offer each hotel guest an experiential experience. We believe the story we create becomes the story guests will tell. Patti Tritschler, founder & ceo, Interior Image Group (IIG)
