Dimension Hospitality Charts a Bold Future: Honoring a Legacy While Embracing Technological Innovation
Dimension Hospitality today outlined plans for the company to enter a new period of growth fueled by technology and new leadership following the passing of company founder and industry icon, Sam Friedman.
“It’s been a year full of change for us,” said Greg Friedman, CEO of Dimension Hospitality. “Joe Viglietta joined our team as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and before he could get his desk unpacked, Sam passed. Sam was a legend in our industry; a charismatic leader with insight and business acumen second to none. He left us a company that is profoundly adept at moving forward because his spirit lives on in every person in this organization. While other companies might have been crippled by such a loss, we are swiftly addressing the needs of the organization both now and into the future.”
Viglietta said he wants to separate Dimension from the crowded field of competitors and sees talent development and new technology as ways of maximizing return on investment for owners, service levels for guests and professional opportunities for associates. The $1 million technology investment includes tools that touch every department and provide financial transparency for owners.
The suite of technology upgrades includes:
- An innovative sales tool that identifies new sources of business in the earliest stages of the selling cycle.
- A state-of-the-art integrated financial management system that provides robust forecasting and budgeting data as well as daily insights.
- Industry-leading channel and revenue management tools to achieve higher asset value and greater revenue generation efficiency.
- An efficient, easy to use all-in-one cloud-based HRIS system designed to enhance associate engagement.
- A labor management system that will help hotels control the most variable and controllable operating expense.
- A mobile tipping platform that enables guests to leave housekeeping tips by using a QR code.
Friedman and Viglietta believe that together these resources will help guide and fuel the company’s nearly 80 owned and managed hotels in an increasingly competitive environment. Next up, the company is seeking training tools that use video and gamification platforms that are comfortable platforms for the end user.
“The best relationships make everybody better. While our competitors may be doing some of this, we are committed to enhancing the operation wholistically. We believe that nobody wins unless everybody wins, and these investments in technology and talent, that touch every aspect of the business, are investments in that core belief,” said Viglietta.
The technology ramp-up also positions Dimension to scale its operation. Acquisitions and third-party contracts are top of mind for the pair. Jeff Shockley joined the team as Executive Vice President of Development and Analytics to support that goal.
“In terms of third-party management, we want to share our talents with like-minded ownership groups and are a preferred operator with Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt,” Friedman said. “On the acquisition side, we are fortunate to be able to be ultra strategic and hyper selective in our investments. We’re fishing in a clearly defined pond of Upscale and Upper Midscale hotels; both single properties and small portfolios.”
“Historically, Dimension has been a really good organization, steeped in the traditions of Southern hospitality, with a uniquely superior leader whose presence lit up the room,” Viglietta said. “Now, instead of a having one radiant spotlight, we are moving to a place where we’re all holding candles and will ultimately shine even more brightly.”
