The Leading Hotels of the World’s Welcomes Eight New Members
Offering the largest collection of independent luxury hotels in the world, The Leading Hotels of the World is pleased to welcome eight new member hotels to its collection. This season’s additions include many new openings and significant renovations that will amplify LHW’s presence in Europe, North America and China.
We are incredibly excited about this cohort of hotel members as they truly demonstrate the uniqueness and freshness of Leading’s collection. These new additions will serve as LHW’s entrance into various locations such as Paros, Greece and Lijiang, China. From a hip and historic restored bank in New York City, to a reinvented palace in Bilbao, Spain, these new members tell stories of the diversity and originality of the area that surrounds them. AMERICAS
Nine Orchard (New York, USA) Restored June 2022
Hip and historic restored bank on the Lower East Side
Soaring ceilings, storied architectural details and cool, mid-century styling have transformed the restored Jarmulowsky Bank into a lively, Lower East Side neighborhood hotel. Built in the frame of the Beaux-Arts bank, this century-old building has been redesigned while keeping its original charm intact. Working from blueprint drawings dating back to 1912, the lobby features a grand arched window, an ornamental ceiling and Tennessee marble floors. The 113 vintage-inspired rooms feature pine flooring, handmade ceramic lamps, and original art from local artists. All rooms have oversized windows that flood the hotel with light and display city views across the New York skyline. Restaurants, Swan Room and Corner Bar, are led by the Michelin star chef Ignacio Mattos, who brings his signature, pared-back approach to Nine Orchard’s dining experience.
The Georgian (Santa Monica, USA) Restored April 2023
Distinguished jewel on the Southern California coastline
With a history spanning over nine decades, this distinguished turquoise façade on Ocean Avenue is where the finest in art, music, design and cuisine intersect. Originally built in 1933, and a magnet for Old Hollywood stars like Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin, the colorful Art Deco hotel has been sensitively and creatively restored by acclaimed design studio, Fettle, retaining many original features. The 84 guest rooms are decorated in understated chic-beach tones with characterful Deco touches, and many have sweeping ocean views. Two charming restaurants explore Italy’s rich culinary heritage: The Georgian Room, an Italian steakhouse, cocktail and piano bar that offers discreet dining, and The Restaurant at The Georgian, helmed by Chef David Almany, is a brunchtime favorite and has lovely ocean vistas.
