Thomas

I am a lifelong advocate for human rights and have acquired a wealth of lived experience with victims of human trafficking and the modalities of their traffickers. I have dedicated my life to shedding light on the injustices faced by marginalized people and communities through action, campaigning and advocacy. My human rights journey began after getting caught up with refugees in the Himalayas of India fleeing the Lhasa Uprising in 1988. As a result of this early experience, I have sought to expose injustice and humanise the plight of the marginalised. In 2019 I initiated the Send Them Home campaign, rescuing and repatriating numerous Nigerian women from the clutches of human trafficking in the UAE. By collaborating with NGOs, hotel chains, and the Nigerian National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), I gained invaluable insights into the complexities of sex trafficking. My close involvement with the survivors allows me to understand their struggles on a deeply personal level. In 2021 I created the Hope Education Project, a sustainable and replicable human trafficking education and awareness program for schools and communities in Ghana, with the aim of disrupting the flow of vulnerable Ghanaian victims at the source.
