(London): – Le Méridien Barbarons on the West coast island of Mahé in the Seychelles is to close for six months in order to complete an extensive re-design and renovation costing US$12.5 million and will re-open in May 2005.

All 124-guest rooms, including four suites and 30 family rooms, will be re-built and enlarged to provide guests with more space. The interior design concept will transform the interior of the beach property using a modern contemporary scheme.

According to Hassan Ahdab, regional managing director – Africa & Indian Ocean: “The renovation of Le Méridien Barbarons follows on from the successful re-launch of the five-star deluxe boutique hotel, Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove, located on Beau Vallon beach on Mahé, which re-opened in June this year following a $12 million refurbishment. When Le Méridien Barbarons re-opens it will offer clients the added choice of a newly refurbished four-star hotel on the island of Mahé “

Two new restaurants at Le Méridien Barbarons will be created; the main restaurant will offer interactive cuisine prepared in front of guests and six food preparation stations will be integrated directly into the dining room.

Externally the swimming pool and paddling pools will be extended and the entrance area and lobby will be re-designed using water features and fountains.

The renovated conference facilities will also include a new business centre.

Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts has managed the hotel since 1985 and Le Méridien Barbarons has become a favourite destination with families and newly weds, whilst also offering conference and incentive opportunities to the Seychelles.
