SAN FRANCISCO, After much anticipation, Joie de Vivre (JdV) Hospitality unveiled their redesign plans today during a festive reception given to a group of Japantown residents and community leaders. The Miyako Hotel and Best Western Miyako Inn will epitomize one of America's most vibrant and historic Japantown communities. The two adjacent hotels will provide distinct interpretations of Japanese culture: from the sophisticated blend of tradition at the Miyako Hotel, to the vibrant energy of Japanese pop culture at the Best Western Miyako Inn.

The Miyako Hotel, will receive a full remodel to refine the quintessential experience that's been appreciated by both domestic and international travelers for over 30 years. Known for its furos (deep soaking tubs), tokonomas (ornamental alcoves) and rice paper shoji screens, all 218 rooms and public spaces will be upgraded with new furnishings, decor and finishes that are respectful interpretations of Traditional Japanese culture. And with over 13,000 square feet of meeting space, The Miyako Hotel will continue to be a superior site for corporate retreats, conferences and special events.

Undergoing a more dramatic change will be the 125-room Best Western Miyako Inn, which will take inspiration from contemporary Japan, featuring the bright colors, modern embellishments and art styling found in Japanese anime, manga and street fashion. An optimistic blend of practical comfort and quirky details, the Inn will attract a diverse spectrum of guests. Acknowledging its location as a hinge point between Japantown and the Fillmore street shopping corridor, the Best Western Miyako Inn will be the ultimate destination for those wanting cutting edge style at a great price.

Both hotels (along with the two of the adjacent mall buildings) have been purchased by 3D Investments of Beverly Hills, CA. JdV Hospitality will lead the approximate $10 million (combined) renovation and repositioning of the hotels which will remain open throughout the process, with construction complete in the first half of 2007. JdV's acquisition of the Miyako properties is part of the company's expansion strategy to become California's dominant independent hotelier. After nearly 20 years catering to the California traveler and operating twice as many in-state boutique properties as any competitor, JdV Hospitality has become the clear authority on the California travel experience.
