Sales, Marketing or RM? - Who will lead the new commercial team?
As the year comes to an end, we are looking back at The Revenuemanager - Summit Series. The second season of this series started in April with IDeaS, a SAS company as the sponsor of the first episode.
Neil Corr, Global Sales Director, Emerging Innovations IDeaS Revenue Solutions, Sloan Dean III, President & CEO at Remington Hotels, and Kelly McGuire, Principal Travel & Hospitality, ZS joined moderator Scott Dahl, SVP Sales, Marketing, & Revenue Management at The Wurzak Hotel Group to discuss, share thoughts and perspectives on Sales, Marketing or Revenue Management? - Who will lead the new commercial team?
The episode concluded with an interesting and insightful conversation between Klaus Kohlmayr, Chief Evangelist at IDeaS Revenue Solutions and Scott.
One of the biggest issues hotels face today are the silos around sales, revenue management and
marketing. Historically evolved, these silos are not only unpractical but even hindering sustainable growth for the hotel. The answer many within the hospitality industry propose is the commercial team which would combine sales, revenue management and marketing in one department. The big question will be, who will lead this team and drive evolution forward?
The question about who should lead the commercial effort has been a debate among hospitality professionals for a long time. Most hospitality leaders would agree that implementing Total Hotel Revenue Management has been more of a mythical destination than a reality, in part due to the territorial obstacles associated with merging the traditional sales, marketing, and revenue management roles into a singularly focused effort. But now the ultimate reset button, COVID-19, presents most organizations with a unique opportunity to build the organization that matches their vision, without the cost (and pain) associated with dismantling an existing team. The big question is: Who is the ideal commercial leader today and what is the most desirable career path an aspiring leader can take to get there?
The Revenuemanager Summit Series were co-produced in collaboration with FunnelTV The Traveltech Channel.
