When discussing the future of technology and its impact on society, it is essential to consider the needs and preferences of different generations. In particular, it is important to take a closer look at the transitory phase that we will experience in the next decade, which will be characterized by the coexistence of Web 2.0 and Web3 technologies. These technologies will play a significant role in the lives of the upcoming generations, including Generation Z (born from 1996 to 2011) and Generation Alpha (born starting from 2011).
Before exploring the potential implications of this technological shift, it is important to consider how best to approach Gen Z. As this generation is currently at the forefront of technological adoption, it is vital to understand their attitudes and behaviors towards technology. By doing so, we can better predict how Gen Alpha will interact with the technology in the future.
Moreover, as we move into the next decade, it is evident that the coexistence of Web 2.0 and Web3 will create a transitional phase, which can be referred to as Web 2.5. This phase will be marked by the use of both Web 2.0 and Web3 technologies, with Web 2.5 being used by Gen Z and Web3 fully adopted by Gen Alpha.
In light of this transition, the chart shared during the World Economic Forum in Davos this year about the Consumer Metaverse was very insightful. It highlighted the projected horizon of metaverse growth and adoption, which can be divided into three distinct phases: early adoption and traction, ecosystem maturity, and mass adoption. This categorization shows that we are still in the early stages of metaverse development, with plenty of opportunities to experiment and learn from mistakes.
When it comes to marketing strategy, it may be time to start thinking about how to use Web 2.0 and Web3 technologies to reach and engage with different generations effectively. For instance, Drive-To-Metaverse campaigns can be run using Web 2.0, whereas experiences and services can be activated using Web3.
In conclusion, the next decade will be marked by significant technological changes, with Web 2.0 and Web3 coexisting and supporting each other. To ensure that these changes are implemented effectively and account for the needs and preferences of upcoming generations, it is essential to understand the transitional phase, experiment and explore how best to approach both Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
