Hotel Indigo Raleigh Opens Following $36 Million Transformation of Downtown Landmark
Hotel Indigo Raleigh, part of the IHG Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, is now open and accepting reservations, marking the revitalization of one of downtown Raleigh’s most recognizable landmarks following a $36 million renovation. Located in the distinctive round tower on Hillsborough Street, the 204-room boutique hotel introduces a fresh hospitality experience deeply ingrained in the local neighborhood, with mid-century-modern design, locally inspired details, and sweeping views of the city skyline.

Originally built in 1969 and gaining historic landmark designation in 2015, the hotel’s structure has been thoughtfully reimagined while preserving the unconventional architecture that has been part of Raleigh’s skyline for more than five decades. The building’s curved footprint inspired the new interiors by NYC-based architecture and design firm Inc., pairing sculptural forms, geometric patterns and bold colors with polished chrome accents and custom built-in furnishings. Warm oak finishes reference Raleigh’s identity as the “City of Oaks,” while natural cork and a curated collection of work by North Carolina artists thoughtfully selected by nineDOTarts further ground the hotel in its surroundings.
At the top of the hotel, High Ground Lounge introduces a new destination for drinks and nightlife in downtown Raleigh. Located on the 20th floor, the bar and restaurant pair panoramic views of the city skyline with elevated Southern cuisine and the warm, welcoming hospitality synonymous with the region. The menu offers a contemporary take on familiar Southern flavors, with dishes rooted in North Carolina and the broader South, complemented by craft cocktails and a curated beverage program. Designed for drinks, celebrations, and nights above the city, High Ground Lounge also offers a striking setting for private events and social gatherings.
On the ground floor, selective demolition transformed what was previously a series of fragmented areas into an expansive, light-filled community lounge. A vintage Airstream courtyard coffee bar connects the check-in and arrival spaces, creating an inviting social hub along Hillsborough Street for hotel guests, downtown workers and Raleigh residents alike. Flexible meeting and event spaces for milestone celebrations or corporate gatherings have been thoughtfully reimagined. The hotel also features an expansive 1,500 sq. ft. fitness center available for guests, outfitted with state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment.
The opening introduces the Hotel Indigo brand to Raleigh and marks the first IHG Hotels & Resorts property in downtown Raleigh. Hotel Indigo Raleigh joins the brand’s North Carolina properties in Asheville and Winston-Salem.
The property is owned by Tidal Real Estate Partners, which acquired the building in 2021, and managed by Sage Hospitality Group, a Denver-based hospitality company that creates experiences and places that bring communities together.
